MODEX Q&A - Comau

MODEX Q&A with | Comau

Tell us about your company.

Comau, a member of the FCA Group, is a worldwide leader in delivering advanced industrial automation products and systems. Combining innovative engineering solutions with enabling technologies, Comau helps companies leverage the full potential of digital manufacturing.

Your company will be exhibiting at MODEX, what is it that makes this an important event for your company?

MODEX provides Comau the opportunity to showcase some of our latest innovative material handling automation solutions to help turn your manufacturing facilities into the factory of the future. Additionally, this is a great event to network with other members of the industry while discovering the latest innovations and trends in supply chain and logistics.

What makes your booth a must visit for MODEX Attendees?

In Comau’s booth, we are providing the opportunity for attendees to test our MATE exoskeleton, and discover first-hand the benefits of utilizing ergonomics in their manufacturing facilities. MATE was designed to improve work quality in an efficient and highly ergonomic manner by providing consistent and advanced movement assistance during prolonged overhead, as well as daily tasks. It is fully able to replicate any movement of the shoulder while adhering to the body like a "second skin".

In addition, guests can learn more about our Agile automated guided vehicles (AGV), which have the best in class payload to size ratio. Modular, scalable and completely re-configurable, they can significantly facilitate core operations including just-in-time and just-in-sequence production, as well as optimized logistic flows inside the factory, improved warehouse management, and better overall production efficiency. The AGVs play a key role in the development of a new operating platform imposed by Industry 4.0.

When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see?  Any educational sessions, pavilions etc. you plan on attending?

Comau is interested in seeing the latest innovations, solutions, and trends in supply chain and logistics. Some of the pavilions we are interested in exploring are Manufacturing and Assembly Solutions, Transportation and Logistics Solutions, and the Emerging Technologies Solution Center.

The Supply Chain is undertaking rapid advancements, be it automation, mobile robotics, IIoT or Autonomous vehicles, give us an idea on how your company and product is being utilized now in the supply chain.

One of Comau’s focuses is to be lean and agile in order to continuously adapt with the complex, transforming environment. We take this into account with all of our innovations and solutions. Starting from value stream mapping, identifying weak and inefficient points, we create the process from the ground up - setting high, yet realistic targets for new lines. We are able to develop the supply chain, make the desired machinery and tools, and create a process prototype. With our strong background in process analysis, mechanical and controls engineering, and manufacturing and systems integration, we can define the most adept strategies and find the best solutions for each particular case.

Give us your thoughts on what the future holds for manufacturers and the supply chain.

In order to meet the challenges and needs of an ever-changing market, Comau defines our approach to the 4th Industrial Revolution as HUMANufacturing. This new era of automation is open, connected, and easy to understand and use, and is made possible due to the development of new products, cutting-edge technologies and an innovative concept of the factory. In the “factory of the future”, industrial robots are no longer confined within barriers, but can work closely and in total security with man, which plays a central role in the production process. The interaction between operators and machines is made efficient and secure by collaborative robots and new digital technologies. Industrial machines become 'smart', more and more flexible, and easy to use in an integrated and connected manufacturing system.
