Robotics Alley Partners with UL LLC to Create Engineering Track

The world of robotics is transforming many industries, which is why Robotics Alley Conference & Expo created nine robotics seminar tracks for the conference. In 2014, Robotics Alley has partnered with UL LLC to produce the Engineering Track.

Minneapolis, Minn. August 27, 2014

Global leaders in robotics research, design, business development, investment, law and policy will gather at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest on September 16-17, 2014, to share their insights into the worldwide explosion of robotics and autonomous systems at the Fourth Annual Robotics Alley Conference & Expo.

In recognition of the wide variety of ways robotics is being applied today, the 2014 Robotics Alley Conference & Expo designed nine tracks of content, including an Engineering Track created in partnership with UL LLC.

This seminar track will offer technical education covering IEC 60601-1 3rd Edition and will provide a certification of attendance following the sessions. The presentations include: IEC 60601-1 3rd Edition; Risk Management Concepts within IEC 60601-1 3rd Edition; and Software Compliance for IEC 60601-1 3rd Edition, including IEC 62304. In addition, there will be sessions on Women in Robotics and the Expanded Use of Robotics in the Production of Critical Components.

Below is a sampling of the content for the Engineering Track, which includes breakout sessions. In addition, new to this years conference are virtual business tours taking place on September 18.

IEC 60601-1 3rd Edition

Ben Dahlen, Engineering Leader of UL LLC, will reviews the updates and provide an understanding of changes being implemented through Amendment I of IEC 60601-1 3rd Edition.

Risk Management Concepts within IEC 60601-1 3rd Edition
Risk management is an integral part of an investigation to IEC 60601-1. As such, manufacturers need to understand the concept of risk management used in IEC 60601 in order to apply the standard. In this session presented by Ben Dahlen, Engineering Leader of UL LLC, attendees will gain a high-level introduction to the requirements related to Risk Management for IEC 60601-1.

Software Compliance for IEC 60601-1 3rd Edition, including IEC 62304
Laura Elan, Program Manager of Life & Health Sciences at UL LLC, will provide an overview of requirements for software and programmable systems, specifically highlighting three common "pain points" of software certification; software of unknown provenance, risk management for software, and legacy devices.
