EVANSVILLE, Ind., Nov. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Evana Automation Specialists, a leading Systems Integrator and builder of custom, automated assembly and test systems, recently delivered an automated kitting line to a major automotive manufacturer, containing seven workstations and six press stations. The kitting line, which is a follow-up order to a shipment of kitting lines purchased last year by the auto company, is used to organize transmission components into kit boxes for installation into three different transmission models.

The process begins when a production worker pushes a component-feed rack, which is filled with bins of transmission components, up to the back of a workstation and transfers the bins onto it. From there, the workstation operator takes components from the bins and places them into the appropriate location in the kit box. Once the operator's task is completed, the kit box is automatically transferred to the next workstation, where the next step of the kitting process is carried out. When the kit box is completely populated with transmission components, it is shipped to the assembly plant for assembly into the appropriate transmission model.

Each workstation is equipped with embedded sensors that track operator movements. Selected workstations include sensors that provide a beam into the kit box, directing the operator where a particular component goes. Additionally, for quality control purposes, all workstations are equipped with one or more cameras to check that the right component is put into the right place inside the kit box.

"Evana Automation is proud to continue its strong working relationship with this major automotive manufacturer," said Randy Wire, General Manager of Evana Automation Specialists. "The automated kitting lines will help the customer manage component inventory and keep costs down, while also serving as an effective quality control measure and production tool."

The ERT150 - Dorner's Next Evolution of Edge Roller Technology Conveyors

The next evolution in Dorner's Edge Roller Technology conveyor platform, the ERT®150, is ideal for small and light-load assembly automation, as well as medical and medical-device assembly application. The ERT platform is the only pallet conveyor of its kind available with an ISO Standard Class 4 rating for cleanroom applications. Earning the ISO Standard 14644-1 Class 4 rating means Dorner's ERT150 will conform and not contribute to the contamination of cleanrooms to those standards. As implied by its name, the ERT150 (Edge Roller Technology) uses rollers to move pallets through the conveyor smoothly with no friction (a byproduct often seen in belt-driven platforms). The conveyor's open design eliminates concerns of small parts or screws dropping into rollers and causing conveyor damage or jamming. The ERT150 is suited to operate in cleanroom environments requiring a pallet handling conveyor. It is capable of zoning for no or low-back pressure accumulation and is ideal for automation assembly applications within industries including medical devices, electronics, consumer goods among others.
