SICK Launches AFS60/AFM60 with Industrial Ethernet

Absolute encoders with EtherNet/IP, PROFINET RT and EtherCAT Connectivity

Minneapolis, Minn. - SICK, one of the world's leading manufacturers of sensors, safety systems, machine vision, encoders and automatic identification products for factory and logistics automation, today announced the launch of the AFS60 and AFM60 absolute encoders with Industrial Ethernet. These dual-port Industrial Ethernet encoders provide EtherNet/IP, PROFINET RT and EtherCAT connectivity.


The singleturn AFS60 and the multiturn AFM60 feature an embedded switch functionality that reduces SICK Launches AFS60/AFM60 with Industrial Ethernetexternal switching components and re-routes data when cable breaks in the network are detected. The AFS60 and AFM60 have superior diagnostic functions, including temperature and acceleration monitoring, and a durable metal code disc that is resistant to shock and high temperatures. These absolute encoders also include a customizable resolution for customer-specific applications using resolution scaling or endless shaft functionality.

With an IP 67/65 protection rating, the AFS60 and AFM60 can be used in a variety of applications that require precise and reliable position accuracy with EtherNet/IP network connectivity. A high degree of accuracy and repeatability make these encoders ideal for motion control, robotics, AGV, packaging and general manufacturing applications. Face mount, servo flange and blind hollow housings are available.

With the introduction of its Cyton and Karbon CXP frame grabbers, BitFlow has established itself as the leader in CoaXPress (CXP), a simple, yet powerful, standard for moving high speed serial data from a camera to a frame grabber. With CXP, video is captured at speeds of up to 6.25 Gigabits/Second (Gb/S). Simultaneously, control commands and triggers can be sent to the camera 20 Mb/S (with a trigger accuracy of +/- 2 nanoseconds). Up to 13 W of power can also supplied to the camera. All this happens over a single piece of industry standard 75 Ohm coaxial cable. Multiple CXP links can be aggregated to support higher data rates (e.g. four links provide 25 Gb/S of data). BitFlow CXP frame grabbers open the door to applications where cable cost, routing requirements and long distances have prevented the move to high resolution, high speed digital cameras. In many cases, existing coaxial infrastructure can be repurposed for CXP with very low installation costs.
