The newest technology for hand-held 3D scanning

The Artec Spider - a new generation, hand-held 3D scanner is capable of scanning sharp edges and small objects with extraordinary resolution and accuracy

Spider to be presented by Artec3D at the Control show in Stuttgart, Germany (May 14-17, 2013)

April 10 (Palo Alto, CA) - - Artec3D, a market leader in 3D scanning and 3D facial recognition technology (based in Palo Alto, CA, Luxembourg and Moscow, Russia - - has announced a new generation hand-held, 3D scanner named Spider - so named because of its many "eyes".

Unlike other hand-held scanners, Spider has been developed for scanning objects with many small details, such as molds, PCBs, coins and engravings. Artec Spider was created as the solution for rapid prototyping, CAD design and manufacturing, quality control, as well as for other industries such as heritage preservation, graphic design medicine, automotive and aerospace - where Artec technology has already been implemented.

Spider has higher accuracy, resolution and the ability to digitize the most complex, industrial parts

"Artec has been very successful in selling the Eva scanner, our flagship product, said Artem Yukhin, President of Artec. It was originally designed for scanning the human body and other organic shapes for medicine, art and heritage preservation. It is also successfully used for industrial design and manufacturing where Eva is used to scan cars, boats, airplanes, etc. However, certain spheres of mass production and industrial design require higher-precision scanning of objects with sharp edges and intricate detail. We realized that we need to develop a scanner to fill that niche: the speed and ease-of-use of Eva, but with higher accuracy, resolution and the ability to digitize the most complex, industrial parts. That's how the Spider was born. You can easily digitize complex objects in minutes and import into a CAD system. I am confident that this technology will make life easier for millions of CAD users around the world."

Product features of the new lightweight handheld Artec Spider 3D scanner include:

- High resolution (up to 0.15mm) and high accuracy (0.03 - 0.05mm),

- No markers or manual alignment required during post processing,

- The scans have texture,

- It scans sharp edges and the intricate details of the object,

- Spider has extended working time when used with the Artec battery,

- Spider provides real-time scanning and fusion.

- Affordable price (under $20,000)
