Vernier Software & Technology Partners with KidWind to Bring Sensor Technology to Wind Turbine and Solar Panel Kits

Strategic partnership with KidWind signifies Vernier's commitment to STEM education and renewable energy

BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 4, 2014 -- As part of its commitment to science and STEM education, as well as renewable energy, Vernier Software & Technology has partnered with KidWind, the international leader of clean energy education. Through the strategic partnership, Vernier will integrate its award-winning sensors and data-collection devices into KidWind's wind turbine and solar energy kits, which will now be sold by Vernier.

"For more than a decade, KidWind has been at the forefront of teaching students about renewable energy science through their engaging, hands-on offerings," said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and a former physics teacher. "This partnership allows us to provide educators with a comprehensive solution for renewable energy data collection. Later this year, educators can expect us to further integrate the use of our sensors and curriculum with KidWind's renewable energy kits."

Through the partnership, Vernier will become the exclusive producer and distributor of the KidWind kits. Customers can purchase KidWind kits through Vernier's website and then use them in the classroom to help students explore electrical concepts and quantify the energy and power of small wind turbines and solar panels.

"KidWind is thrilled to be turning over our manufacturing and distribution to such a well-respected company in education, and we see this as a great beginning to a long relationship," said Michael Arquin, founder and director of KidWind. "With the Vernier partnership, our staff will focus on our core strengths, including the KidWind Challenge, which we are turning into a national event this year, professional development for teachers and the creation of new renewable energy kits and curricula."
