This milestone has been reached twenty-two years after the very first installation of the Astronaut milking robot.

At the beginning of September, Alexander van der Lely, CEO of the Lely Group, announced that the twenty thousandth Lely Astronaut milking robot is being installed this year. This milestone has been reached twenty-two years after the very first installation of the Astronaut milking robot. The Dutch company, Lely, is the global pioneer in the area of automated milking and continues to be the market leader in this field. Although the system has seen continuous adjustments since then, the Astronaut milking robot of today is still based on the same original idea. The Lely Astronaut improves farm managers quality of life while at the same time ensuring optimum welfare of animals and yield for the dairy farm.

Unprecedented success

At the start of the 90s, the question was whether cows could be milked by a robot. Nowadays, modern dairy farming wouldnt be without robotic milking. Every day, more than a million cows find their way unassisted to the Astronaut milking robot to be milked. Countless hours of testing have earned Lely a wealth of experience, which is consistently employed to further develop the robot. Van der Lely admitted to being very proud and thanks all clients and staff who have contributed to this unprecedented success.
