KC Robotics, Inc. Partakes in Summer Camp for Robotics Week

Industrial Robotics Company Happy to be Part of Primrose School’s Summer Camp Program

West Chester, OH- KC Robotics, Inc., an industrial robotics company, participated in Primrose School of West Chester's summer camp on July 20.

Primrose School of West Chester's summer camp included a week dedicated to "inventions and robotics." About 25 campers ages six through ten visited KC Robotics' location for about an hour on the Monday morning of July 20.

First, children got a safety brief from KC Robotics technician Steve Tettenhorst. He was called "Safety Steve" for the day. Safety education is an important and necessary aspect of visiting a manufacturing company. Children received safety glasses to wear throughout their time at KC, along with candy and other KC Robotics, Inc. gear.

Children visited three "stations" during their time at KC Robotics. The first station was a series of short videos showing robots working and doing fun activities like dancing. An engineer and project leader, Greg Davis, explained how the robots are able to perform tasks.

At the second station, campers visited a robotic design engineer. Engineer Stephanie Marner explained the process of building robots on a computer before they are physically built.

The third station included actual robot action! Robot Technician Dwayne Smith and robotic expert Erica DeMott from KC Robotics were excited to show off a moving KUKA robot (while the campers stood behind a safety rope, of course).

KC Robotics' small collaboration with a local school turned out to be a huge success. Many students showed interest in robotics and gave positive feedback. KC Robotics believes it has sparked some STEM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) interests in the minds of some of West Chester's brightest youths.

Universal Robots - Collaborative Robot Solutions

Universal Robots is a result of many years of intensive research in robotics. The product portfolio includes the UR5 and UR10 models that handle payloads of up to 11.3 lbs. and 22.6 lbs. respectively. The six-axis robot arms weigh as little as 40 lbs. with reach capabilities of up to 51 inches. Repeatability of +/- .004" allows quick precision handling of even microscopically small parts. After initial risk assessment, the collaborative Universal Robots can operate alongside human operators without cumbersome and expensive safety guarding. This makes it simple and easy to move the light-weight robot around the production, addressing the needs of agile manufacturing even within small- and medium sized companies regarding automation as costly and complex. If the robots come into contact with an employee, the built-in force control limits the forces at contact, adhering to the current safety requirements on force and torque limitations. Intuitively programmed by non-technical users, the robot arms go from box to operation in less than an hour, and typically pay for themselves within 195 days. Since the first UR robot entered the market in 2009, the company has seen substantial growth with the robotic arms now being sold in more than 50 countries worldwide.
