Local high school students will tour facilities and learn about CNC manufacturing, innovative machining technology and career opportunities.

Charlotte, NC August 26, 2015

Okuma America Corporation, a world-leader in CNC machine tool manufacturing, and Siemens, one of the worlds largest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, are partnering to host a Manufacturing Day 2015 event on Friday, October 2, 2015, in Charlotte, North Carolina from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at their respective facilities. Local high school students will be given the opportunity to tour each company and learn how CNC machining and modern manufacturing play important roles in a multitude of industries. This event is being held in conjunction with the annual national Manufacturing Day celebration.

Students will learn about the educational paths needed to pursue traditional and non-traditional careers in manufacturing. Theyll have the opportunity to speak with students from Clemsons CU-ICAR program and various technical professionals to hear about careers as engineers, machine tool operators, programmers and service and finance professionals.

Additionally students will see robotic and cutting demonstrations on state-of-the-art CNC machine tools at Okuma. On the walking tour of Siemens, participants will view the production of steam and gas turbines and generators while learning about power generation and transmission systems.

Available Sessions:
To accommodate the greatest number of students, and to provide full and half-day options, there are three available sessions from which to choose.
The full-day session combines a morning tour of the Siemens facility and an afternoon tour of the Okuma facility. Two half-day sessions, touring only the Okuma facility, are available.

Okuma and Siemens Session 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Okuma Morning Session 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Okuma Afternoon Session 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

"There is a substantial shortage of skilled labor to fill the various roles in modern manufacturing. As manufacturing professionals, we feel its important to show students the wide variety of career paths in the industry and the talent that is needed to fill those opportunities. Okuma and Siemens are looking forward to welcoming students to each of our companies and hopefully inspiring the next generation of manufacturers," said Brittany Russell, Okuma Training Program Manager.
