Sharp INTELLOS A-UGV Wins ISC West's SIA New Product Showcase Award in "Law Enforcement/Guarding Systems"

Awarded at the April 2017 ISC West Tradeshow in Las Vegas

MONTVALE, N.J., May 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sponsored for decades by the Security Industry Association (SIA), ISC West 2017 reported more than 30,000 attendees, which represents a 3% increase in overall attendance. The expanded crowd goes hand in hand with the upturn of entries reported for SIA's New Product Showcase, a competition among ISC West exhibitors. Winning at this year's matchup was Sharp Electronics Corporation's outdoor security robot, the Sharp INTELLOS Automated Unmanned Ground Vehicle (A-UGV). The Sharp INTELLOS A-UGV won SIA's New Product Showcase (NPS) award in the category of "Law Enforcement/Guarding Systems". There were more than 30 product and service award categories for the 120+ entrants to consider. Sharp's honor was earned in a newly identified growth segment for security technology.

"To receive this distinction as a newcomer from a judging panel of long-standing security professionals is a tremendous honor for Sharp," said Cliff Quiroga, Vice President of Sharp Robotics Business Development. "Sharp invested more than three years obtaining 'voice of customer' input to refine, redesign, test and ultimately manufacture a product that meets the expectations of the marketplace. The SIA New Product Showcase award affirms the meticulous, iterative process that we followed to offer our robotic solution to the security industry. The Sharp INTELLOS A-UGV is what end-user customers, guard companies and security integrators are looking for as a critical piece in safeguarding people and property."

Beyond the award, Sharp Electronics exhibited at the inaugural Unmanned Security Expo (USE) within the greater experience of ISC West. Sharp's booth featured a "real time" streaming feed of a Sharp INTELLOS A-UGV deployment and the debut of their video "The Journey: Developing the Sharp INTELLOS A-UGV".

Sharp also participated in three SIA educational sessions at ISC West 2017 as the founding sponsor of Robolliance, a forum for technology partners and industry experts in robotics, surveillance and security, created to advance the understanding and awareness of the Autonomous Robotics marketplace. Topics included "Robotics: Upcoming Legislation and Government Regulations You Need to Know Now" (moderated by PSA Security President - Bill Bozeman), "Protecting Your Facility to the Edge Using Autonomous Robotics" (moderated by Sharp Robotics Marketing Director - Alice DiSanto) and "Drones & Droids 2020: The Future of Unmanned Robotics" (moderated by UAS Coalition Executive Director - Nathan Ruff).

The Sharp INTELLOS™ A-UGV is a multi-terrain, mobile sensor, intelligence-gathering robot that can capture video, audio and environmental data, while providing a visible deterrent -proactively and without the aid of a human driver. It utilizes a navigation surveillance platform to patrol predefined routes, extending the property coverage and impact of a traditional security force. Included are standard information gathering tools, plus optional observation and sensor equipment configurable to meet a customer's changing safety needs.

Notably, the Sharp INTELLOS A-UGV has been certified to ISO 13482 (International Organization of Standardization) for safe operation around people. Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA) issued the certification to Sharp on March 16th, 2017. With a groundswell of unmanned systems into the security space for air, land and sea, Sharp prioritized adherence to safe operation, and sought out JQA's third-party objectivity to demonstrate the fact their outdoor robot satisfies the safety requirement stipulated in the global standard. Additionally, the Sharp INTELLOS A-UGV's performance has been tested under conditions of the MIL-STD 810 standard.

uEye XC AUTOMATICALLY PERFECT IMAGES

Combining the ease of use of a webcam with the performance and reliability of an industrial camera? The uEye XC autofocus camera from IDS Imaging Development Systems proves that this is possible. Its high-resolution imaging, simple setup and adaptability make it an invaluable tool for improving quality control and streamlining workflows in industrial settings - especially for cases where users would normally employ a webcam. The uEye XC autofocus camera features a 13 MP onsemi sensor and supports two different protocols: USB3 Vision, which enables programmability and customization, and UVC (USB Video Class). The UVC functionality enables a single cable connection for easy setup and commissioning, while delivering high-resolution images and video. This makes the uEye XC camera an ideal option for applications that require quick setup and need to manage variable object distances. Additional features such as digital zoom, automatic white balance and color correction ensure precise detail capture, which is essential for quality control.
