Why I Automate: Engineered Machined Products, Inc.

Like any small company introducing change into their operations, some employees feared that automation may take their jobs. But at EMP, the opposite was true. "We've seen jobs grow, and that's very important; not only for this community, but for the State of Michigan,"

Festo's FAST Program

The FASTâ„¢ Program is a group of close to 2,000 products that can be utilized in many automation applications that we guarantee to ship within 1, 3, or 5 days, depending on the configuration.

National Robotics Week And MATE ROV Competition

The 2014 MATE competition highlights the role that ROVs play in exploring and documenting shipwrecks, studying sinkholes, and conserving our national maritime heritage sites.

Cable Carriers for Rotary Applications

Here are three different types of rotary applications and the cable carrier system used for each.

How Trends in Electronics are Affecting Connectors

New smaller and more portable electronics in aerospace, defense, and other stressful environments, like those encountered in robotics and oil exploration, are resulting in changing demands and designs of electronic connector systems.

DRC SafeStop Case Study

For the Robotics Challenge, to demonstrate the robot's ability to operate a vehicle, DARPA chose to use the RANGER XP 900 EPS vehicles, which were all customized for the challenge with a TORC SafeStop Emergency System.

This is our special news page where you can read about and post news and announcements about products and services exhibited at AUVSI 2014 Unmanned Systems.

Drones in the Water

Essentially, we're creating drones for water that produce mapping capabilities; it's somewhat similar to air drones (i.e.: fixed wing UAVs) that map from the sky, but we're mapping from the water.

International Paper Saves Labor Costs, Improves Reliability, Quality and Work Flow

Downtime near zero vs. extended downtime of former gantry system.

Beta Testing Dynamixel XL-320 Servos

Dynamixel XL-320 is a digital servo (in this case, featuring a 8-bit STM8 controller).

What to Look for When Specifying a Robot Cable

In order for a cable to withstand repeated torsional movement, it's necessary for the cable to have a special design. It's important that the conductors, shield construction and jacket materials of the cable compensate for major changes in bending load and diameter.

Robotic Welding Series: Robotic Flexibility Can Open Up Opportunities For Job Shops

This is the final installment of a 4-part series by KC Robotics about the automated arc welding industry.

Why I Automate: Vickers Engineering

Robotics allows us to draw a different level of employee. Employees that aren't just looking for a paycheck, but looking for a career.

The Unmanned Platform Common Control System (CCS)

The CCS prototype was developed for the U.S. government and its goal is to simultaneously control multiple unmanned assets in various environments (water, air and ground).

The Less is More Approach to Robotic Cable Management

There are different options available for guiding and protecting cables on six-axis robots. Three well- known solutions include flexible tubing, enclosed dress packs and robotic cable carrier systems.

SCHUNK's New Safety Gripping System EGN

SCHUNK's New Safety Gripping System EGN

With the SLS, SOS, and STO functionalities, the SCHUNK EGN gripping system certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13849 enables safe human/machine collaboration. If the production process is interrupted by an emergency shut-off, the SCHUNK EGN goes into either a safely limited speed mode or a safe stop mode depending on the activated protection zone. In contrast to other solutions available on the market, the SCHUNK safety gripping system is continuously powered even in the safe operating stop so that the gripped parts are reliably held even without mechanical maintenance of gripping force. As soon as the protection zone is released, the gripper immediately switches back to the regular operating mode without the system having to be restarted.
