Product Q&A with Ronen Sadan. VP Marketing | Elmo Motion Control

Tell us about your product and what sets it apart

Elmo Motion Control’s latest generation combines two complementary innovations: the Titanium multi-axis motion controller family and the Platinum servo drive series.

At the core of the Titanium platform is a unique combination of multi-axis control, high computing power, and integrated functional safety, all within an exceptionally small footprint. This enables machine builders to achieve performance and integration levels that traditionally require multiple components.

The Platinum servo drives complement this with best-in-class servo performance, exceptional power density, and one of the industry’s most comprehensive sets of functional safety features integrated directly at the drive level.

Together, they deliver:

  • Ultra-fast deterministic performance (with EtherCAT cycle times down to 100 µs for 16 axes)
  • Compact, scalable architecture
  • Integrated safety (SIL3, FSoE) across the system
  • Seamless controller-to-drive synchronization

This combination allows OEMs to design machines that are smaller, faster, and inherently safer, while reducing overall system complexity.

2. Tell us about the R&D behind this product. Who is it for and what problem does it solve?

The Titanium and Platinum platforms are the result of focused R&D aimed at solving one of the biggest challenges in modern machine design: delivering higher performance in less space, with lower complexity and built-in safety.

As machines evolve, especially in industries such as semiconductors, robotics, medical devices, and defense, requirements have intensified:

  • Higher precision and synchronization
  • Faster processing and response times
  • Reduced footprint
  • Compliance with stringent safety standards

Traditional approaches often rely on distributed architectures with multiple controllers and external safety systems.

Elmo’s R&D approach was to converge these capabilities into a unified architecture, combining:

  • High-performance multi-axis control
  • Powerful onboard computing
  • Functional safety embedded at both controller and drive levels
  • Advanced real-time communication

The result is a solution tailored for OEMs and machine builders who need to push performance boundaries while simplifying system design and reducing total cost of ownership.

3. Give us an idea of the installation process

The installation and commissioning process has been significantly streamlined with the introduction of Elmo’s Application Studio III (EASIII).

EASIII provides a modern, advanced user interface designed to accelerate system integration and configuration. It enables engineers to move quickly from setup to full system operation with minimal effort.

Key elements include:

  • Fast system configuration and integration through an intuitive UI
  • Simplified multi-axis setup and tuning workflows
  • Advanced auto-tuning and diagnostics tools
  • Support for simulation and validation, reducing the need for iterative hardware testing

Combined with standard EtherCAT networking and compact hardware design, this approach allows for rapid deployment and shorter time-to-market, even in complex multi-axis systems.

4. How is your company set up to support users?

Elmo provides a comprehensive, end-to-end support structure designed to accompany customers throughout the entire lifecycle—from design to deployment and beyond.

A key differentiator is our global Application Engineering team, which interfaces directly with customers. This close collaboration allows us to go beyond product support and actively contribute at the system level, helping customers optimize performance, reduce complexity, and accelerate development.

At Elmo, we often say that we are helping entrepreneurs turn their dreams into reality, whether it’s enabling next-generation surgical robotics or advancing industrial safety systems. This mindset drives how we engage with our customers.

Our support framework includes:

  • Global technical support teams with strong local presence
  • Direct application engineering engagement
  • Fully in-house development and production
  • Advanced software tools for configuration, tuning, and diagnostics
  • Extensive documentation and training resources

Customers consistently value Elmo for delivering solutions that are reliable, compact, and high-end, packed with industry-leading capabilities, while ensuring the highest levels of functional safety.

This combination of technology, expertise, and close partnership allows us to support customers not just as a supplier, but as a true enabler of their innovation.

5. What feedback have you received from the field? Can you share a use case?

The response from the field has been exceptionally strong, particularly around the launch of the Titanium Castanet.

There is significant momentum and interest around this product, driven by its unique combination of capabilities: an ultra-compact, dual-axis servo drive (up to 15A/100V), based on advanced GaN (Gallium Nitride) power switching technology, with full functional safety, all in a footprint comparable to a matchbox. This level of integration and power density is widely seen by customers as a true market breakthrough.

Today, we are seeing a growing number of projects already in the integration phase across a wide range of industries, including:

  • Robotics
  • AGV/AMR systems
  • Medical devices
  • Humanoid robotics
  • Defense applications

These are all domains where size, weight, and power efficiency are critical design constraints.

While many of these projects are still progressing toward full deployment, early feedback highlights:

  • Dramatic reduction in system size and weight
  • Simplified system architecture, thanks to dual-axis integration
  • Improved efficiency and thermal performance enabled by GaN technology
  • Built-in functional safety, reducing the need for external safety hardware

Across the board, customers view Titanium Castanet as an enabler of next-generation machine design, allowing them to achieve performance levels that were previously difficult—or impossible—within such a compact form factor.
