Clearpath Robotics Open Sources TurtleBot Euclid Design

Turtlebot Euclid will no longer be offered as a commercially available platform

(Kitchener, ON, Canada - MAR 16, 2018) Clearpath Robotics, a global provider of mobile robots for research and development, has announced it is cancelling the offering of the Turtlebot Euclid platform and will open source all development work. The company will make the code, electrical and mechanical design, parts list, and assembly instructions available online for free.

"By open sourcing TurtleBot Euclid, we hope to encourage members of the robotics community to build on the extensive design and engineering effort we've put into Turtlebot Euclid," said Julian Ware, General Manager for Research Solutions at Clearpath Robotics. "This work provides a great starting point for roboticists wanting to use either the Intel Euclid Development Kit or the Create2 in a mobile robotics application, and could be used as the basis of a competition or education platform."

While TurtleBot Euclid will no longer be sold commercially, the company will continue to sell and support the TurtleBot 2 robotics learning kit. TurtleBot 2 consists of a Kobuki mobile robot base, provided by Yujin Robot, a dual-core netbook, Orbbec Astra Pro sensor, and gyroscope - all integrated to deliver an out-of-the-box development platform.

"TurtleBot 2 continues to be the most popular reference platform for learning ROS and advanced robotics concepts," Ware added. "We didn't feel that by offering a new variant we could offer our users a superior experience."

BLE2 Series Brushless Motor & Driver

BLE2 Series Brushless Motor & Driver

The BLE2 Series replaces our popular BLE Series and continues our brushless motor advantages by featuring an all new compact, high-power and high-efficiency brushless DC motor combined with a Driver that can be digitally set and controlled via external DC voltage or by the front panel. The BLE2 Series can easily compete with larger 3-phase inverter driven motors in many more applications, with built-in simple holding torque function, saving space and increasing performance thanks to the advantages of a brushless motor design. The BLE2 Series has a maximum speed of 4000 r/min, achieving a speed ratio of 1:50 (80 to 4000 r/min). The new motor structure is small than previous models and enables high power and high efficiency while incorporating easy setting, installation and wiring. The new motor connector offers IP66 degree of protection and allows for easy and direct connection between motor and driver with two available orientation of cable outlet direction.
