Tell us about your company.

TÜV Rheinland is a global provider of safety testing and certification services for Industrial Machinery manufactures and suppliers. We offer programs designed to assist companies achieve industrial machinery certification/labelling for a number of standards and regulations including CE Marking, Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, ANSI, NFPA, UL, CSA standards and field evaluation/special inspection services. Our Robot Integrator Program is the first of its kind in the industry, and certifies the robot integrator's knowledge of robotics standards while allowing manufacturers to apply a serialized TÜV Rheinland Mark to all of their certified products.

 

Your company will be exhibiting at AUTOMATE, what is it that makes this an important event for your company?

Automate is a great event that brings together all players from the automated machine industry. This includes users, manufacturers, researchers and safety professionals. It is a perfect place to understand where the industry and marketplace are going while at the same time a great networking opportunity.

 

What makes your booth a must visit for AUTOMATE Attendees?

TÜV Rheinland will be holding a series of booth demos Monday through Wednesday at 3pm, along with a free Happy Hour at the same time. We will be using a cobot from Universal Robots to demonstrate safety evaluation and testing for a robot cell. We will also touch on the technical specifications for important robotics standards. Our demo and happy hour events will be a great forum for attendees to learn more about what we do and to mingle with fellow professionals.

 

AUTOMATE has many educational sessions, forums & Demo’s, is your company involved in any of them this year?

During our booth demo, one of our senior test engineers will actually test a pick & place robot cell for compliance with robotic safety standards such as ISO/TS 15066.

 

When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see?  Any educational sessions, pavilions etc. you plan on attending?

We will be particularly interested in seeing the new types of robotic technology and applications. As a testing laboratory, it is imperative that we understand how technology is being used in the real world to allow us to better understand and assess each application. We are intended to attend the various sessions regarding collaborative and mobile robot technology and applications

 

The factory floor is undertaking rapid advancements, be it automation, robotics, machine vision or data.  Automation Technology is a huge part for many manufacturers, give us an idea on how your company and product is being utilized now in the smart factory.

Our company is tasked with assessing safety of these applications. It is important that we understand the technology, how it is used and what industry safety standards apply to various applications. We can then assist our customers in assessing these applications to ensure worker safety.

 

Give us your thoughts on what the future holds for manufacturers and automation technology.

We believe that the future will see rapid growth in the automation sector. Companies will be looking to utilize automation and interconnected machines wherever possible to obtain greater productivity and efficiency. The industry has already taken a giant leap forward in the last 5 years and we expect that trend to continue.
