SANTA BARBARA, California (July20, 2026) Its standard practice to deburr and polish machined, laser cut or stamped parts. In the US, manual deburring makes up nearly half of all deburring operations. Productive Robotics has designed and built a new fully integrated metal dust collector for its automated deburring and polishing cell. The cell, operated by the company's OB7 from its line of zero-programming collaborative robots, offers a compact, enclosed workstation that prevents abrasive dust and metal fines from contaminating the shop floor environment.
"Deburring is one of the most repetitive and least desirable tasks in a machine shop," says Brandon Shawler, a deburring specialist for Productive Robotics. "It is also one of the dustiest jobs. Automating the process is only part of the solution. When OB7 guides a part across the deburring media, metallic and abrasive dust is released into the surrounding environment. We developed the new integrated dust collector to draw grinding residue from the enclosed cell through three stages of filtration [down to one micron] and contain it. For customers, it means cleaner air, cleaner equipment and a tidier workspace."
The upgraded cell features a compact footprint that measures 4 feet by 5 feet. The installation package includes OB7 and a force-controlled deburring platform. The plug-and-play system simply rolls into place for quiet, clean operation. The versatile cell also supports the use of multiple media for both deburring and polishing as well as finishing of different areas of a part.

The intuitive cell requires zero programming. An operator teaches OB7 by physically guiding the cobot through each motion from speed and number of passes to part rotation.
