Today's quadcopters crash when one of their propulsion systems fail. Verity, a world leader in autonomous drones who has created drone shows for Metallica, Drake and the CCTV New Year’s Gala, has developed Failsafe to be the first line of defense for consumer and commercial drones. Failsafe is a control algorithm that can be applied to any manufacturers’ drones at little or no cost to the consumer. It allows drones such as this quadcopter to continue to fly after the most common technical failure: a propulsion system failure. When a Failsafe drone has a propulsion system failure, instead of spinning out of control and crashing to the ground, the drone stays in the air using sophisticated algorithms to stabilize itself and can be safely navigated to a secure landing location.Failsafe works indoors and outdoors, on autonomous as well as remote controlled drones. Verity has proven this technology in various conditions: from outdoors in wind and snow to indoors on Broadway. In 2016, Verity deployed 8 Failsafe drones in Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour. The drones flew above performers in front of audiences of around 2,000 people in 398 live shows. In the course of the one-year show, the drones safely performed more than 7,000 autonomous take-offs, flights, and landings. Verity’s Failsafe has been successfully demonstrated on multiple third-party drones, and a reference design has been created for PX4. It can be used on both consumer and commercial drones, including partially or fully redundant vehicles and those equipped with parachutes. An increasing number of drones are populating the sky for photography, commercial uses and industrial applications. Verity’s Failsafe can make any drone safer, at little to no additional cost to the consumer. Increasing drone safety with Failsafe technology is a critical step in bringing about the future of autonomous drone inspections, drone delivery, air-taxis and the advancement of the overall drone industry.
