About the host

Fran Scott is an accomplished Engineering presenter, maker and pyrotechnician. A scientist by training (MSci Neuroscience) and an engineer at heart, Fran is an experienced prop builder and Science Content Producer who specialises in the use of physical demonstrations to explain seemingly complex phenomena.

She is best known for her Gen Z-focussed television shows such as the BBC’s Absolute Genius with Dick and Dom, Newsround and Bitesize. More recently, however, Fran’s love of industrial engineering and innovation has taken centre stage with her programmes including Abandoned Engineering, Massive Engineering Mistakes and Lego Masters.

Fran’s experience extends beyond just television, as she has Produced many science-based stage shows including headline shows at the Big Bang Engineering Faire, a nationwide touring stage show for Google for Education, as well as the oldest televised lecture series of all time, the Royal Institution’s Christmas Lectures (on which she also led the demonstration team). In addition, Fran is Creative Director of her own events production company, Great Scott! Productions, which works with Engineering and Infrastructure firms to produce high-quality classroom resources and workshops to inspire the next generation of Engineers, whilst simultaneously training under-represented presenters.

Fran is a proud Trustee of the Brunel Museum, and also a member of the Engineering and Technology Innovation Awards Advisory Board.
