Stäubli’s Stericlean Series Celebrates 10th Anniversary at INTERPHEX

The world’s premier automated solution compatible with aseptic environments for drug manufacturing processes improves efficiencey and patient safety

DUNCAN, S.C. (March 08, 2018) - Stäubli's groundbreaking Stericlean series of robots will celebrate 10 years of improving efficiency and the quality of patient care at the International Pharmaceutical Expo (INTERPHEX), scheduled to be held at the Javits Center in New York City April 14-19.

First launched in 2008, Stäubli's TX Stericlean series was the world's first robot designed to operate in aseptic production areas (Advanced Aseptic Processing). Stäubli (booth #1857) also will showcase its dynamic TX2 line of collaborative robots, a new generation of robots designed with the smart factory and Industry 4.0/Lab 4.0 in mind. Stäubli's TX2 robots are capable of communicating with each other and adapting production and processes to meet changing needs with unparalleled flexibility.

"This year marks the tenth anniversary of the launch of the first-ever Stericlean series, which has revolutionized the way automated solutions are implemented in a variety of complex medical tasks," said Sebastien Schmitt, Robotics Division Manager, North America, Stäubli. "Because drug makers and hospitals must abide by the highest safety standards Stäubli's TX Stericlean series offers the absolute best option to ensure accuracy, efficiency and patient safety."

Stäubli robots are used in a wide variety of tasks including in laboratory settings for cell culturing and microplate screening; in hospitals for IV bag or syringe compounding; in drug manufacturing for the filling and packaging of vials and syringes; and in medical device assembly, machining, coating and inspection.

INTERPHEX showcases the latest innovations, technology and knowledge in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, from development through commercialization. ST Robotics Develops the Workspace Sentry for Collaborative Robotics

The ST Robotics Workspace Sentry robot and area safety system are based on a small module that sends an infrared beam across the workspace. If the user puts his hand (or any other object) in the workspace, the robot stops using programmable emergency deceleration. Each module has three beams at different angles and the distance a beam reaches is adjustable. Two or more modules can be daisy chained to watch a wider area. "A robot that is tuned to stop on impact may not be safe. Robots where the trip torque can be set at low thresholds are too slow for any practical industrial application. The best system is where the work area has proximity detectors so the robot stops before impact and that is the approach ST Robotics has taken," states President and CEO of ST Robotics David Sands.
