Talking Automate 2022 with ATI Industrial Automation

Q&A with | ATI Industrial Automation

Tell us about your company.

ATI Industrial Automation – A Novanta Company is the world’s foremost expert in the design and manufacture of robotic end-effectors. ATI products such as Robotic Tool Changers, Force/Torque Sensors, and Material Removal Tools enable robots to be more flexible and allow innovators to push boundaries and develop new applications. ATI End Effectors go where robots go and can be found in critical applications for aerospace, automotive, defense, metal fabrication, packaging, medical and surgical, warehouse logistics, and other industries.

Your company will be exhibiting at AUTOMATE, what is it that makes this an important event for your company?

AUTOMATE is a critical event this year for many reasons. It’s been three years since the last in-person event and so much has changed within the automation industry. Demand for flexible automation solutions is higher than ever and innovation is on the rise. This particular show is made possible by the A3 organization and brings together a huge variety of robotic and automation companies, including some of the boldest and brightest innovators in the industry. We always look forward to an opportunity to share ideas and learn from the best. The AUTOMATE Show is located in Detroit this year which is home for us! ATI Headquarters are in Apex, NC but we have deep roots in the Motor City with a sales and support office in nearby Rochester Hills.

What makes your booth a must visit for AUTOMATE Attendees?

We will have a variety of robotic demonstrations featuring the latest ATI Tool Changers, Material Removal Tools and Force/Torque (F/T) Sensors as well as technologies from our automation partners.  We will also showcase a wide range of ATI products including brand new Radially-Compliant Deburring Tools, Control Modules, Mini F/T Sensors, and Robotic Tool Changers. ATI’s experienced sales and applications team will be on hand to help answer questions and find the ideal solution for each unique project.

AUTOMATE has many educational sessions, forums & Demo’s, is your company involved in any of them this year?

We have two Keynote Presentations; Tim Burns will host a session on “The True Costs of Material Removal” on Tuesday June 7 at 11:00 AM, and Bethany Colbry will present “Beyond Material Handling – How Advanced EOAT Applications Can Benefit From Tool Changers” on Wednesday, June 8 at 10:00 AM. Attendees will see a variety of demonstrations and displays of ATI equipment from our automation partners throughout the show as well.

When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see?  Any educational sessions, pavilions etc. you plan on attending?

There are so many robot companies represented at this show, so the new technology is always very exciting. ATI customers are on the leading edge of technology so we love a chance to see where the innovation will go next, not to mention the ways they incorporate ATI equipment into their booth displays. This year has a strong emphasis on warehouse logistics and food and beverage applications, plus there is a lot of consideration to the different types of robot users and many offerings tailored for a variety of experience levels. The Keynotes from Daymond John and Rachele Focardi are not to be missed! It’s going to be a very informative and inspiring week with a ton of variety.

The factory floor is undertaking rapid advancements, be it automation, robotics, machine vision or data.  Automation Technology is a huge part for many manufacturers, give us an idea on how your company and product is being utilized now in the smart factory.

We are seeing just how critical robotic peripherals are. ATI End-Effectors are critical to robots’ ability to complete more than one task at a time with superior precision, unmatched accuracy, and long lasting durability. The need for flexible, responsive systems that are robust yet adaptable to future demand is growing and ATI is thrilled to be alongside.

Give us your thoughts on what the future holds for manufacturers and automation technology.

The future could not be brighter for automation technology. The world is changing and the way we manufacture and build things is evolving. As humans gravitate towards more meaningful and intellectual work and the need for cost-effective, safe, manufacturing, logistics and surgical processes grows, we discover more and more opportunities to innovate with automation and robotics.
