SMAC Moving Coil Actuators has released the new LCS25 Measurement Tool.

The SMAC Measurement Tool addresses the limitations of using a traditional Height Gauge.

Shop floor part measurement is often made using height gauges. These have drawbacks such as the dial indicator is moved up and down with one hand, leaving the other hand is often holding the part. A traditional Height Gauge has a spring loaded dial indicator that must be tapped slightly in order to get a good reading and the reading is only to 2 decimal points (metric). Further, using a traditional Height Gauge, parts must all be measured top down. Sometimes it is easier to measure horizontally. This means a certain level of skill is required in order to correctly use a height gauge.

By contrast, the SMAC Measurement Tool has a direct drive linear motor and hence has no backlash. SMAC's exclusive "Soft-Land" technology means that an actuator can move slowly out - gently bump into the surface to be measured - stop and apply a desired push or pull force to be used during measurement. There is no manual operation involved. The SMAC Measurement Tool uses a built-in encoder with 1 micron or 0.1 micron resolution. This means 3 decimal point measurement. Further, it can measure both vertically or horizontally. The measurement data can be automatically uploaded to data collection devices. Machine operators can be quickly taught to make the measurements - no high degree of technical expertise is required.

SMAC 100% inspects all critical tolerance parts. The SMAC Measurement Tool's simplicity, ease of use, and data feedback capability means that SMAC's height gauge is easily maneuverable for complex parts. Machine operators can handle all required measurement tasks with minimal training.

The SMAC Measurement Tool is a competitively priced improvement in machine shop measuring tools. The complete kit includes an MCA Actuator, Controller, and HMI Display. The List Price for the complete kit is $2750.

SMAC Moving Coil Actuators offer true "mechatronic solutions." By that they mean their actuators have unique capabilities such as programmable and controllable position, velocity, and force, high accelerations, cycle life well over 100M, and a patent-pending "Soft-Land" capability. The Soft-Land capability is particularly useful when performing fragile part assembly, measurement, moving objects, etc. Real time feedback of these motion attributes enables proof that the work is done (i.e., direct quality feedback).

Schmalz Technology Development - The Right Gripper for Every Task

In order to interact with their environment and perform the tasks, lightweight robots, like all industrial robots, depend on tools - and in many cases these are vacuum grippers. These form the interface to the workpiece and are therefore a decisive part of the overall system. With their help, the robots can pick up, move, position, process, sort, stack and deposit a wide variety of goods and components. Vacuum gripping systems allow particularly gentle handling of workpieces, a compact and space-saving system design and gripping from above. Precisely because the object does not have to be gripped, the vacuum suction cupenables gapless positioning next to each other.
