KUKA Provides A3 Event Attendees Valuable Insight Into Applying Mobile Robots

Mobile robot application expert Denise Ebenhoech from KUKA Robotics presented at the recently held Association for Advancing Automation (A3) Autonomous Mobile Robots and Logistics Conference in Memphis, Tennessee.

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., November-2-2021 - Mobile robot application expert Denise Ebenhoech from KUKA Robotics presented at the recently held Association for Advancing Automation (A3) Autonomous Mobile Robots and Logistics Conference in Memphis, Tennessee. During her presentation entitled Mobile Robot Application Considerations for Integrators and End Users, Ebenhoech, Regional Head of Advanced Robotic Applications for KUKA, discussed the range of mobile robot applications in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, energy, transportation and others. Attendees learned about the key considerations of implementing such automation in terms of processes, parts and facility environments with emphasis placed on developing robot fleets, maintaining safe operations and using advanced mobile robot software.

For manufacturers in the various industries, Ebenhoech presented the wide range of mobile automation technologies currently available from KUKA. These advanced technologies include mobile robot platforms that pick up and drop off, convey, cart, rack, tow or forklift materials and components. She also provided in-depth details of mobile robots integrated with either collaborative or industrial type robot arms - technology that further expands the potential applications of mobile robots in terms of flexible automation for production processes such as machine tending.

These sophisticated vehicles combine the strengths of both technologies to perform several complicated tasks throughout manufacturing environments. The results are improved quality, space savings, process optimization, flexibility, easier acess to machines and other equipment, increased safety and the optimum use of existing workforces.

Conference attendees also learned of the benefits of KUKA's omnidirectional wheel drive technology that gives mobile robots complete freedom of movement whether navigating through manual operation, inductive and optical guidance, magnetic grid, indoor GPS, rotating lasers with reflectors or lidar systems. To ensure safe mobile robot navigation, Ebenhoech covered intelligent software and sensors to safely navigate factory floors. Starting with the needs of the customer, attendees discovered the various safety issues that had to be taken into account when operating mobile units around workers in tight areas.

uEye XC AUTOMATICALLY PERFECT IMAGES

Combining the ease of use of a webcam with the performance and reliability of an industrial camera? The uEye XC autofocus camera from IDS Imaging Development Systems proves that this is possible. Its high-resolution imaging, simple setup and adaptability make it an invaluable tool for improving quality control and streamlining workflows in industrial settings - especially for cases where users would normally employ a webcam. The uEye XC autofocus camera features a 13 MP onsemi sensor and supports two different protocols: USB3 Vision, which enables programmability and customization, and UVC (USB Video Class). The UVC functionality enables a single cable connection for easy setup and commissioning, while delivering high-resolution images and video. This makes the uEye XC camera an ideal option for applications that require quick setup and need to manage variable object distances. Additional features such as digital zoom, automatic white balance and color correction ensure precise detail capture, which is essential for quality control.
