Mezzanine Safeti-Gates Extends Safety Gate Line Beyond People and Products

The new RobotGate utilizes a power operated, single gate system that provides fall protection for ASRS automated robots and pallet shuttles as they move from level to level.

ESSEX, MA - February 12, 2025 - Mezzanine Safeti-Gates, Inc., an innovator in the design and manufacturing of pallet drop safety gates that provide fall protection in distribution centers, warehouses and manufacturing and material handling facilities, announced that it now offers RobotGateâ„¢, a new safety gate designed to protect industrial robots from falling into shafts of vertical reciprocating conveyors (VRCs) or elevators in automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) of material handling and warehousing facilities.

The new RobotGate utilizes a power operated, single gate system that provides fall protection for ASRS automated robots and pallet shuttles as they move from level to level. The steel safety gate interlocks with the elevator or VRC and mounts to existing pallet rack and any floor rails the robots use to move around the area. RobotGate keeps its shaft-facing gate closed in order to keep the robot away from the ledge of the elevator shaft, only opening when the elevator is present and aligned with the floor on that level.

"The investments being made into automation, including robots that help in material handling applications are not small. Just like making an investment in the safety of your human workforce, companies also need to think about investing in the safety of their robotic workforce," said Aaron Conway, president, Mezzanine Safeti-Gates, Inc. "We created the RobotGate out of need, as many facility managers have reached out after an incident, most of which required a complete replacement of the robot. RoboGates provide the same level of safety for operations, as our Roly® safety gate provides for people and products."

The RobotGate is another instance in which a custom engineered safety gate design has evolved to become a standard model sold by the company. Other models that started as custom designs include the Open Top, Tri-Side, Dock-Lift and High Pallet Pivot safety gates. Pallet drop safety gates systems manufactured by Mezzanine Safeti-Gates come in standard single-wide and double-wide sizes. All safety gates can be manufactured in stainless steel or powder-coated steel and finished in any color. Custom engineering can be obtained for uncommon pallet drop area sizes and or unique applications.

Representatives from Mezzanine Safeti-Gates will be in ProMat booth S1849 in Chicago's McCormick Place from March 17-20, 2025, and can discuss RobotGate applications.

Used in thousands of locations throughout the world, pallet drop safety gate systems offered by Mezzanine Safeti-Gates can be equipped with additional forklift truck 'operator-assist' technologies including power, remote operation and radio frequency sensors. Product containment netting is available for new and existing pallet drop gates. To learn more about the full line of industrial pallet drop gates, visit https://www.mezzgate.com.

3D Vision: Ensenso B now also available as a mono version!

This compact 3D camera series combines a very short working distance, a large field of view and a high depth of field - perfect for bin picking applications. With its ability to capture multiple objects over a large area, it can help robots empty containers more efficiently. Now available from IDS Imaging Development Systems. In the color version of the Ensenso B, the stereo system is equipped with two RGB image sensors. This saves additional sensors and reduces installation space and hardware costs. Now, you can also choose your model to be equipped with two 5 MP mono sensors, achieving impressively high spatial precision. With enhanced sharpness and accuracy, you can tackle applications where absolute precision is essential. The great strength of the Ensenso B lies in the very precise detection of objects at close range. It offers a wide field of view and an impressively high depth of field. This means that the area in which an object is in focus is unusually large. At a distance of 30 centimetres between the camera and the object, the Z-accuracy is approx. 0.1 millimetres. The maximum working distance is 2 meters. This 3D camera series complies with protection class IP65/67 and is ideal for use in industrial environments.
