Mazor Robotics Launches Renaissance, the Next Generation of Its Highly Accurate Robotic Surgical Guidance Systems
Maximizing Safety and Enabling a Wide Range of Clinical Applications, FDA-Cleared and CE-Marked Renaissance Was Successfully Tested at Select International Centers
CAESAREA, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mazor Robotics Ltd. (TASE: MZOR), the leader in innovative surgical robots and complementary products for spine surgery, introduced today Renaissance™, the next-generation of the world's only spinal robotic surgical guidance system. Renaissance is equipped with new capabilities that will extend the ability of surgeons to perform a wide range of procedures, including complex spine surgeries.
Renaissance is powered by Mazor Robotics' core technology which has been clinically validated with SpineAssist®, Mazor Robotics' previous system for spine surgery. SpineAssist was successfully utilized in over 2,000 spinal surgeries worldwide, accurately placing more than 12,000 implants. Investigators of a recent 14-site international multicenter study published in the peer-review journal Spine concluded that Mazor Robotics' technology "offers enhanced performance in spinal surgery when compared to freehand surgeries, by increasing placement accuracy and reducing neurologic risks."
"With thousands of successful surgeries performed with our systems to date, Mazor Robotics has defined an entirely new approach to safely conducting spine surgery," said Ori Hadomi, CEO of Mazor Robotics. "With the launch of Renaissance, we have set the bar even higher and will allow surgeons to significantly improve the standard of care they can provide for their patients."
Renaissance features an entirely new design and human interface, as well as next-generation hardware and software technologies. These are designed to increase surgical safety as well as extend the range of clinical applications, enabling osteotomies, transfacet and translaminar-facet implant placements, in addition to procedures such as spinal fusions and scoliosis corrections currently performed with Mazor Robotics' technology. Renaissance also serves as a platform that will support future clinical applications, such as robotic-guided cranial surgeries.
Continuing Mazor Robotics' commitment to safety, Renaissance reduces radiation protocols for preoperative CTs by up to 50%, which means patients will be exposed to significantly less radiation. The Company also collaborated with surgeons on developing surgical tools and technological enhancements for Renaissance that further reduce the potential for human error.
"The launch of Renaissance is particularly exciting for Mazor Robotics, as not only will it provide additional clinical benefits, but it is a key milestone for us, coinciding with the Company's current rapid growth in the USA as well as in Europe and Asia," added Hadomi. "We've worked hard to build the world's best robotic guidance system for spine surgery - and while its success ultimately relies on the surgeons who use it - enthusiasm for Renaissance surpasses our initial expectations."
