Agile Planet Previews the First PLC Unified Motion Controller at PACK EXPO 2012

Company demonstrates how AX-50 motion controller increases value, lowers component and development cost and decreases time-to-market of automation solutions

Pack Expo 2012

AUSTIN, Texas--Agile Planet, the easiest, fastest and most cost-effective means of developing and deploying new robot and motion control solutions, today announced the company would demonstrate the new AX-50™ Controller at PACK EXPO 2012 at booth number E6604.

AX controllers provide scalable PC-based motion/robot control that can either be fully programmed from a Rockwell PLC or be standalone machine/robot controllers. AX-50 Controllers also support 16 axes of motion. By using the AX-50 Controller, customers will reduce development cost, decrease time-to-market and greatly increase their potential customer base through no need for special programming skills and ability to interact with any PLC. The AX-50 Controller can easily be programmed in Microsoft Visual Studio or using RSLogix 5000 from Rockwell Automation. All AX controllers are EtherCAT masters and have built-in support for a variety of servo drives and IO modules.

"With Agile Planet it's all about our simplicity," said Chetan Kapoor, CEO at Agile Planet. "For the first time in the history of automation, we've been able to make working with any PLC and/or any brand of servos and robots simple. We allow automation end users to reduce their maintenance cost and provide robot and motion users an easy means of decreasing integration costs while increasing value to their customers."

The AX-50 Controller is being beta previewed at PACK EXPO 2012 to demonstrate its unique capabilities to companies interested in beta testing the product in their operations before general availability.

Agile Planet's generally available product, the AX-RLX™, is being live demonstrated in its customers booths with Yaskawa Motoman Robotics at booth S438, Columbia Machines at booth N3306 and Intelligrated at booth S2274. The display will highlight robot solutions based on the AX-RLX robot controller for ControlLogix PACs from Rockwell Automation. AX-RLX is the only full featured implementation of PLC Unified Robot Control for the Rockwell Automation platform that supports all robot programming in RSLogix 5000 while allowing the use of EtherCAT servo drives.

ST Robotics Develops the Workspace Sentry for Collaborative Robotics

The ST Robotics Workspace Sentry robot and area safety system are based on a small module that sends an infrared beam across the workspace. If the user puts his hand (or any other object) in the workspace, the robot stops using programmable emergency deceleration. Each module has three beams at different angles and the distance a beam reaches is adjustable. Two or more modules can be daisy chained to watch a wider area. "A robot that is tuned to stop on impact may not be safe. Robots where the trip torque can be set at low thresholds are too slow for any practical industrial application. The best system is where the work area has proximity detectors so the robot stops before impact and that is the approach ST Robotics has taken," states President and CEO of ST Robotics David Sands.
