BRM Announces WESTEC and SOUTH-TEC Tradeshow Results; Leading Manufacturers Like Automated Deburring and Surface Finishing

Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), maker of flexible honing tools and nylon abrasive brushes, announces findings from recent WESTEC and SOUTH-TEC tradeshows. Leading manufacturers want better part quality and increased production efficiency, and like BRM Flex-Hone® and NamPower technologies for automated burr removal and surface finish improvement.

Los Angeles, CA November 12, 2013

Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), maker of flexible hones and abrasive brushes, is announcing results from WESTEC and SOUTH-TEC, two of America's leading manufacturing tradeshows. BRM exhibited Flex-Hone® and NamPower products at both October 2013 events and met with leading manufacturers from a variety of industries.

BRM's attendance at these U.S. tradeshows followed a visit to Germany's EMO Hannover 2013 in September. As media reports continue to cover reshoring and Made in the USA manufacturing, Brush Research is offering automated deburring and surface finishing solutions that can help manufacturers improve quality and efficiency by automating operations.

Flexible Hones Remove Burrs and Improve Cylinder Surface Finish

Manufacturers use BRM Flex-Hone® tools in robotic cells, transfer lines, and CNC machine centers for automated post-machining operations. Metalworkers and machine shops also use flexible hones to deburr bores and improve the surface condition of cylinder walls. Industrial applications for flexible honing tools include cross-hole deburring, parts deburring, and edge radiusing.

BRM cylinder hones produce a controlled surface condition that's free from cut, torn, or folded metal. Suitable for any type or size cylinder, these deburring tools feature abrasive globules that are laminated onto the ends of flexible nylon filaments. Ball hones, as Flex-Hone® tools are sometimes called, produce a soft cutting action and are self-centering, self-aligning to the bore, and self-compensating for wear.

As the Flex-Hone® In-Machine Setup video explains, manufacturers are using flexible hones to speed metal finishing operations and achieve surface finishes down to the single RA level. At both WESTEC and SOUTH-TEC, BRM also explained how Flex-Hone® technology uses a low-temperature, low-pressure abrading process that imparts an ideal cross-hatch pattern to cylinder walls.

NamPower Nylon Abrasive Brushes Automate Deburring and Parts Finishing

NamPower abrasive brushes are high-performance deburring tools that improve outer diameter (OD) surface finish in applications such as auto parts and appliance manufacturing. Designed for mounting in machine centers, these abrasive nylon brushes integrate with existing machinery and equipment, but do not require rigid setups. Additional applications for NamPower brush tools include metal finishing prior to plating and deburring after fine blanking.

With their dense, uniform fill, NamPower abrasive disc brushes conform closely to part contours, wiping and filing across part edges and part surfaces. Tough but flexible, these abrasive nylon brushes are made with filaments that are both moisture and chemical resistant. The NamPower family of products, which includes wheel brushes, are also used for parts cleaning and edge radiusing.

As tradeshow visitors learned and BRM's How to Automate Deburring and Surface Finishing video explains, NamPower abrasive disc brushes are made with a molded, fiber-reinforced thermoplastic base. By allowing coolant to flow from the brush center instead of supplying lubricant from only the outside, NamPower arbors improve cutting action and promote longer tool life.

About Brush Research Manufacturing

Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), makers of a full line of cylinder honing tools and industrial brushes, is located in Los Angeles, California. For 55 years, BRM has been solving difficult finishing problems with brushing technology. BRM's Flex-Hone® tool is the standard against which all other surface finishing solutions are compared. NamPower technology is ideal for outer diameter (OD) burr removal and surface condition improvement.
