At Interphex 2014, Festo Demonstrates Solutions that Increase Uptime, Reduce Commissioning and Assure Process Quality

Visitors to the Festo Booth #3767 can interact with an automated fermentation process, view a media valve demonstration, and discuss the company's latest top-down/bottom-up diagnostics capabilities.

Festo showcases at Interphex 2014, March 18-20 at the Javits Center in New York City, solutions for increasing uptime, reduced commissioning activities and assuring process quality through state-of-the-art process automation with a focus on diagnostics. (Festo Booth #3767)

Festo supplies a complete one-stop-shop for pilot valves, I/O, hygienic ball valves and positioners, HMI, and more. Festo supervisory controllers with advanced diagnostic modules can interface with any leading PLC or DCS platform or communicate directly with a process SCADA system. The dynamic fermentation display at the Festo booth demonstrates the company's process expertise and product capabilities. The Festo CPX modular controller with the MPA valve terminal provides serial linkage and consistent communication down to the valve level for comprehensive diagnostics. The compact MPA terminal has up to 64 valve positions/128 solenoid coils. This saves considerable space in the control cabinet and provides reliable feedback-free switching of pilot valves/process actuators.

The Festo FED HMI is connectable to all Field Equipment Controllers (FECs) either serially or via Ethernet. The HMI has trends display, recipe handling, multilingual capabilities, and software uploading of projects. This active demonstration shows how correct dosages, ambient conditions, and mixes are created and maintained. Servo motors (for stirring), ball valves, and a host of sensors are featured.

"All of these Festo components were designed to work together in order to ensure ease of integration, high operating efficiency, and fast time to market for Festo-based solutions," said Craig Correia, Biotechnology/Pharmaceuticals Industry Segment Manager for Festo. "The Festo approach delivers a top-down/bottom-up solution that supplies continuous diagnostic data. This data helps to ensure high uptime, improves validation/commissioning efficiency and process quality. Having one supplier that offers most, if not all, of the components saves companies considerable engineering time and delivers a host of operational benefits, including technical support, project procurement management and parts inventory."

A media flow demonstration featuring the Festo VZXF angle seat valve, a multiple processing example, and a host of process related automation components, including air quality preparation systems, will also be at the booth.

The ERT150 - Dorner's Next Evolution of Edge Roller Technology Conveyors

The next evolution in Dorner's Edge Roller Technology conveyor platform, the ERT®150, is ideal for small and light-load assembly automation, as well as medical and medical-device assembly application. The ERT platform is the only pallet conveyor of its kind available with an ISO Standard Class 4 rating for cleanroom applications. Earning the ISO Standard 14644-1 Class 4 rating means Dorner's ERT150 will conform and not contribute to the contamination of cleanrooms to those standards. As implied by its name, the ERT150 (Edge Roller Technology) uses rollers to move pallets through the conveyor smoothly with no friction (a byproduct often seen in belt-driven platforms). The conveyor's open design eliminates concerns of small parts or screws dropping into rollers and causing conveyor damage or jamming. The ERT150 is suited to operate in cleanroom environments requiring a pallet handling conveyor. It is capable of zoning for no or low-back pressure accumulation and is ideal for automation assembly applications within industries including medical devices, electronics, consumer goods among others.
