Tier 1 Automotive Supplier to Receive Fourth Custom Assembly and Test System from Evana Automation

Evana solution will simplify the production of automobile steering assemblies for Chinese operation

EVANSVILLE, Ind., March 18, 2014 -- Evana Automation Specialists, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and leading Systems Integrator and builder of custom, automated assembly and test systems, is building the fourth of seven custom assembly and test systems, based on a multi-year contract, for a Tier 1 automotive supplier.

The custom solution, which simplifies the production of automobile steering assemblies, provides three main functions: The first function involves the assembly of a ball nut. During this process, the bearing is assembled to the ball nut, Loctite is dispensed to the threads, and the spanner nut is assembled and secured using a DC driver. The second function involves assembling the ball nut to a rack. This process includes gauging the rack and ball nut, selecting ball bearings and loading them into the assembly, where the two components are mated and checked for lash. The third function involves complete noise, vibration and functional testing of the final assembled part. Upon successful testing, the assembly is coated with an anti-rusting agent.

Overall, the Evana systems offer complete component traceability, process data collection of torque values, ball selections, part measurements, lash readings, performance data and test readings. All of this data will be tagged to the serial number of the final part and saved in a database for future accessibility. Delivery of the fourth system, which is going to a manufacturing facility in Anting, China, is scheduled for June 2014.

"Evana is proud to be the automation partner for this repeat customer, who already has three of these Evana systems in production," said Randy Wire, General Manager of Evana Automation Specialists. "The systems offer efficient and effective solutions to complex requirements, all while expanding Evana's global reach."

Evana utilizes diverse technologies to specialize in motion control, robotics integration and system architecture by linking production equipment, material handling systems, data collection, networking, as well as computer software and hardware into flexible, unified technology. Test equipment can be integrated into assembly systems, stand alone systems for automatic testing, or manual test benches. Overall, Evana's custom assembly and test solutions improve efficiency for manufacturers all over the world in industries like automotive, aerospace, defense, healthcare and alternative energy.

3D Vision: Ensenso B now also available as a mono version!

This compact 3D camera series combines a very short working distance, a large field of view and a high depth of field - perfect for bin picking applications. With its ability to capture multiple objects over a large area, it can help robots empty containers more efficiently. Now available from IDS Imaging Development Systems. In the color version of the Ensenso B, the stereo system is equipped with two RGB image sensors. This saves additional sensors and reduces installation space and hardware costs. Now, you can also choose your model to be equipped with two 5 MP mono sensors, achieving impressively high spatial precision. With enhanced sharpness and accuracy, you can tackle applications where absolute precision is essential. The great strength of the Ensenso B lies in the very precise detection of objects at close range. It offers a wide field of view and an impressively high depth of field. This means that the area in which an object is in focus is unusually large. At a distance of 30 centimetres between the camera and the object, the Z-accuracy is approx. 0.1 millimetres. The maximum working distance is 2 meters. This 3D camera series complies with protection class IP65/67 and is ideal for use in industrial environments.
