IMTS 2014 - US Preview of VISI 21 At IMTS

North America’s largest manufacturing technology exhibition – IMTS, from September 8 to 13.

September 1, 2014 -- Major enhancements in the forthcoming new release of VISI, from Vero Software, will be on display for the first time in the US, at North America's largest manufacturing technology exhibition - IMTS, from September 8 to 13.

To be fully released at the end of October, VISI 21 includes completely new machining strategies for 2, 2.5 and 3-axis environments. In addition, a new toolpath simulation manages the ISO output, providing users with an enhanced and accurate virtual representation of the part, before committing it to the machine. The new release also introduces new "hybrid" milling strategies which will adapt different types of finishing toolpaths to match the component geometric form.

Updated CAD developments include new technology for managing multiple instances of the same geometry. For example, multi insert molds and dies can now be managed simply with a single reference part which will update all subsequent updates of the same geometry if the part is modified. The forthcoming release also includes enhanced kinematic simulation tools for previewing the real movement of tooling - ideal when validating the tool design and checking for collisions with slides, cams and lifters.

General Manager Richard Youhill says VISI's integration of CAD and CAM into a single application, provides best-in-class technology in one simple to use interface.

VISI's American reseller, TST - Tooling Software Technology - will be carrying out demonstrations at booth E-3114 at the McCormick Place complex in Chicago.

Universal Robots - Collaborative Robot Solutions

Universal Robots is a result of many years of intensive research in robotics. The product portfolio includes the UR5 and UR10 models that handle payloads of up to 11.3 lbs. and 22.6 lbs. respectively. The six-axis robot arms weigh as little as 40 lbs. with reach capabilities of up to 51 inches. Repeatability of +/- .004" allows quick precision handling of even microscopically small parts. After initial risk assessment, the collaborative Universal Robots can operate alongside human operators without cumbersome and expensive safety guarding. This makes it simple and easy to move the light-weight robot around the production, addressing the needs of agile manufacturing even within small- and medium sized companies regarding automation as costly and complex. If the robots come into contact with an employee, the built-in force control limits the forces at contact, adhering to the current safety requirements on force and torque limitations. Intuitively programmed by non-technical users, the robot arms go from box to operation in less than an hour, and typically pay for themselves within 195 days. Since the first UR robot entered the market in 2009, the company has seen substantial growth with the robotic arms now being sold in more than 50 countries worldwide.
