ABB to feature its new YuMi dual arm, inherently safe collaborative robot at The Assembly Show 2015

Additional demos include the small footprint, large work envelope IRB 1200 robot, and the ultra-compact FlexFeeder flexible parts feeding system.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (October 7, 2015) - ABB Robotics will feature its latest robotic assembly technology at The Assembly Show 2015, October 27th - 29th at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL (Booth # 600). YuMi, the worlds first truly collaborative dual-arm industrial robot that ABB introduced earlier this year will highlight the exhibit.

YuMi was specifically designed to meet the flexible and agile production needs of the consumer electronics industry, and other small parts assembly applications. It can operate in very close collaboration with humans due to its inherently safe design, and has a lightweight, yet rigid magnesium skeleton covered with a floating plastic casing, wrapped in soft padding to absorb impacts. YuMi is also compact, with human-like dimensions and movements, and is fully integrated with ABBs Integrated Vision as well as the recently introduced FlexFeeders.

Additional highlights of the ABB booth include:

· IRB 1200: A robot family that provides the flexibility, ease of use, short cycle times, and small footprint, large work envelope symmetry ideal for a wide range of small parts assembly applications. It is innovatively designed with no offset in axis two, delivering a longer stroke that allows the robot to be placed very close to the work piece and still be functional. Combined with other signature features, the longer stroke enables up to 15% smaller work cells and 10% shorter cycle times than comparable robots.

· FlexFeeder: An ultra-compact flexible parts feeding system designed for small parts assembly applications such as consumer electronics, computers and communication devices. It features a pneumatically actuated mechanical system to present randomly positioned parts in a way that makes it possible for a vision equipped robot to pick the parts accurately.
