Eyeris Emotional AI and Face Analytics Technology Gains Momentum in Commercialization in the Automotive and Social Robot Markets

Demos at CES 2017 and Sponsors the Smart Cities Hackathon

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Eyeris, a world pioneer and leader in deep learning-based facial expression recognition and analytics today announced the increasing commercial adoption of its embedded computer vision software in the automotive and robotics industries at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017. Demos with Eyeris' EmoVu™ Driver Monitoring AI (artificial intelligence) will be shown at several automotive OEM and tier-one partner locations throughout the event, and other demos specific to embedded systems for robotics, IoT and smart home will be shown by invitation only at the Palazzo Las Vegas.

Eyeris Driver Monitoring AI Improves Car Safety and Comfort

Federal data shows that 94 percent of all car crashes are the result of human error. According to the NHTSA's Federal Automated Vehicles Policy, Operator-Vehicle-Interaction (OVI) during the transition between different autonomy levels in a Highly Automated Vehicle (HAV) is challenging without a driver monitoring system.

"Using our facial analytics and emotion recognition technology in cars enables a better understanding of driver's attention, cognitive awareness and emotional distraction," said Modar Alaoui, co-founder and chief executive officer, Eyeris. "We truly believe that our technology can help reduce traffic accidents caused by human error, and enable a new breed of emotionally intelligent machines that fully understand driver's state and provide customizable experiences tailored around safety and comfort."

"Eyeris uses a proprietary methodology through deep learning, which results in the highest accuracy under various head poses and lighting conditions," added Alaoui. "Our EmoVu software is not bound to any specific race/ethnic group or lighting conditions. We've dedicated years in perfecting our technology and we're happy to see the results materialize with the world's leading companies and brands."

Eyeris automotive customers include Toyota Motor Corporation, Honda Motor Co, a major U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer, Toyota Research Institute and two major German tier-one suppliers. Eyeris customers want to better understand driver's state in order to customize advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), enhance the safety of automobiles, and create comfortable environments and tailored services and solutions that are uniquely customized for each occupant. "We are especially excited to see our technology go into vehicle production starting Q4 of 2017," said Alaoui.

Recognized as a leader in in-cabin occupant monitoring, Eyeris was invited to join the GENIVI Alliance, a consortium of the world's leading automotive brands. The organization provides standards and an open connectivity platform that accelerates innovative solutions, and a collaborative environment with world-class connected car stakeholders.

Social Robots and AI Agents Become Smarter with Facial Emotion Recognition Solution

According to the International Federation of Robotics, service robots for personal and domestic use are projected of sales of about 42 million units for about US$22 billion during the period of 2016 and 2019 worldwide.

Eyeris works with robotics and AI agent companies in the U.S. and Asia to develop and upgrade service and social robots using Eyeris embedded AI software, featuring emotion recognition and face analytics capabilities.

"What we've been able to add to Human-Robot-Interaction (HRI) will forever change the way social robots and virtual agents understand, empathize and interact with users through human-like face-to-face interaction," Alaoui commented.

At CES, Eyeris will showcase, by-invitation-only, several demos for robotics, including a camera-enabled Amazon Echo™ that responds to users' facial expressions, as well as various embedded systems for IoT and smart home.

About EmoVu™ Software
Eyeris' flagship product, EmoVu software reads facial micro-expressions in real time and uses convolutional neural networks as a deep learning architecture to train and deploy its algorithms into different applications. EmoVu software bridges the gap between emotion recognition, face recognition, age and gender identification, head pose, eye tracking and everything else in between. EmoVu is ultra-lightweight embeddable and uses models that are rapidly customizable in mater of days. EmoVu is compatible with any camera, any processing hardware and any programming language, and is available to developers in four versions: embedded SDK, desktop SDK, mobile SDK and cloud API.
