PORTSMOUTH, Ohio—Yost Labs again raises the bar for advanced inertial motion tracking with their newest innovation, the 3-Space SensorTM LX, an ultra-miniature Attitude & Heading Reference System (AHRS) with embedded pedestrian tracking and altitude estimation.
It is the smallest, fastest, most affordable sensor Yost Labs has ever produced. The high-precision, high-reliability, low-cost, AHRS uses triaxial gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass sensors along with a barometric pressure sensor in conjunction with advanced on-board filtering and processing algorithms to determine orientation relative to an absolute reference orientation in real-time. The combination of performance, size, and price of the 3-Space SensorTM LX is unmatched by any competitors.
The new LX can reach sensor orientation outputs at up to 1750 Hz while automatically reducing the effects of sensor noise and sensor error. This ultra-fast filter update rate is due to the sophisticated engineering of Yost Labs' proprietary sensor fusion algorithm, QGRAD2TM which is over 10 times more efficient than existing Kalman filter algorithms.
Measuring 16x15x1.7 mm, the reengineered 3-Space SensorTM is 2.2 times smaller than the previous model and weighs only 0.9 grams. Drawing just 22mA @ 5v, it is also over twice as energy efficient as the original embedded sensor.
This model also features advanced on-board magnetometer auto-calibration which allows the sensor to quickly adapt to changing magnetic environments. This breakthrough in automation increases ease of use with faster set up and more accurate results.
An additional highlight of the sensors will be support for pedestrian tracking by computing and storing an estimated motion path of a walking individual carrying or wearing the sensor. With this, the Yost Labs team has solved the significant challenge of tracking where a person is as they walk around in an environment where GPS is not available.
Other application areas for the 3-Space SensorTM LX include robotics, motion capture, unmanned navigation, healthcare monitoring, virtual reality and immersive simulation, and more.
With the 3-Space SensorTM LX, Aerospace grade AHRS is now available at consumer grade pricing. The sensors will sell for as low as $37.50 per unit, and development kits will be available for only $99. Additional pricing information is available by contacting Yost Labs.
About Yost Labs
Yost Labs is one of Ohio's fastest growing technology companies. The company is internationally recognized as a leader in advanced inertial motion sensor technology. Yost Labs has created inertial motion sensor fusion firmware that is 10x the computational efficiency of previous technologies - resulting in miniature MEMS sensors with low latency, low energy, and low heat. Applications range from human motion tracking in virtual reality to drone navigation. Our technology is sold as either a firmware license or as complete sensor units. Yost Labs' sensors are displacing older technologies and are now standard components for the US Navy and US Air Force target drones as well for the Army Corps of Engineers Geospatial Mapping initiative. Yost Labs' innovation has been recognized with five patent awards with numerous additional patent applications pending. The growing list of customers includes technology giants in computing, industrial equipment, robotics, and AR/VR.
