Product Announcement for Basler boost: The New Camera with CoaXPress 2.0 Interface for High Data Rates

The boost is Basler’s first camera with a CoaXPress 2.0 interface that offers its users a high bandwidth for data transmissions. New CMOS sensors combined with the latest frame grabber technology make it a breeze to quickly transfer large data volumes across great distances.

With the Basler boost series, Basler is one of the first camera manufacturers on the market to expand its portfolio with a camera featuring the CoaXPress 2.0 standard and modern CMOS sensor technology. The camera delivers high resolutions and high frame rates with a cable length of up to 40 m. Basler also offers a combination of camera and matching interface card from a single source in form of the Basler boost bundle.

Thanks to the upcoming CoaXPress 2.0 standard (or CXP 2.0), the Basler boost cameras achieve a maximum bandwidth of up to 12.5 Gbps with a single CXP cable. The precise triggering with the CXP cable eliminates the need for a separate I/O cable, making a single-cable solution possible in combination with power-over-CXP (PoCXP). This results in significant cost reductions.

Basler combines this advancement in interface technology with the best which the current CMOS sensor landscape has to offer: an optional Sony IMX253 or IMX255 sensor delivers resolutions of 12 or 9 megapixels respectively with maximum frame rates of 68 fps or 93 fps.

The CXP 2.0 interface requires an appropriate interface card in the PC. It prevents the PC's processor (CPU) from being blocked by the image data transfer so that it can be fully available for the image processing application. To this end, Basler offers its proprietary Basler CXP-12 interface card. Combined with the Basler boost camera, it forms the Basler boost bundle that gives the customer a simple image capture solution from one source. Basler's pylon Camera Software Suite addresses the camera as well as the interface card, making it even easier to integrate the application.

The Basler boost has impressively compact dimensions of 80 mm x 80 mm x 45 mm and includes a digital input along with two GPIO ports. Basler's well-known features such as the image optimization PGI are also available in this camera. Basler is presenting the new product for the first time at the VISION show in Shanghai, followed by the Hannover Messe in Germany and the Automate in Chicago, United States.
