Piab - Custom tool CPT now a configurable product

After two successful years as a custom line product, cobot palletizing tool CPT is now due for a move to the standard assortment. “We’re happy to provide this versatile tool as a fully configurable product to all customers in search of state-of-the-art palletizing”, says Madeleine Sheikh, Global Product Manager.

The cobot palletizing tool CPT started out as an idea driven by Piab's custom line team in Germany. In 2022 it was launched as a custom line product and immediately attracted attention, mainly due to its ability of picking several boxes of different shape and size in the same cycle.

"Imagine how many more pallets you can ship out each day, if you palletize four boxes at the same time instead of just one", Madeleine Sheikh, Global Product Manager at Piab, then said.

In addition, CPT has a lot of other qualities to offer. The most obvious being its off-centre design which extends the reach of the cobot with up to 100 mm. It is also very compact and lightweight which put less strain on the robot arm.

CPT carries an integrated piCOMPACT®23 SMART Valve Unit allowing extremely fast response times which in turn increases throughput. As so many other Piab products, CPT is equipped with the famous COAX® technology that minimizes air consumption.

CPT is very easy to reconfigure locally as it is only necessary to change the lower suction plate from foam to suction cups or vice versa. This means that this tool effectively is several EOAT: s in one unit. It comes with Plug & Play software and interfaces for UR E- and CB-series cobots up to size UR20, or a Generic electrical interface prepared for IO-link that is compatible with other cobots.

"After two successful trial years we're happy to provide this versatile tool as a fully configurable product to all customers in search of state-of-the-art cobot assisted palletizing. I am confident it will bring efficiency and competitiveness to new levels", concludes Madeleine Sheikh, Global Product Manager.

Schmalz Technology Development - The Right Gripper for Every Task

In order to interact with their environment and perform the tasks, lightweight robots, like all industrial robots, depend on tools - and in many cases these are vacuum grippers. These form the interface to the workpiece and are therefore a decisive part of the overall system. With their help, the robots can pick up, move, position, process, sort, stack and deposit a wide variety of goods and components. Vacuum gripping systems allow particularly gentle handling of workpieces, a compact and space-saving system design and gripping from above. Precisely because the object does not have to be gripped, the vacuum suction cupenables gapless positioning next to each other.
