Kassow Robots' Edge Edition 7-axis Collaborative Rrobot Arm

Product Q&A with Kassow Robots | Kassow Robots

Tell us about your product and what you feel sets it apart from similar products.

The Kassow Robots’ Edge Edition is a 7-axis collaborative robot arm with its controller integrated into the robot’s base, making it the most compact cobot available. This integration eliminates the need for an external controller and allows direct DC power connection, optimally supporting mobile applications on automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). With a footprint of just 160 by 200 millimeters, the Edge Edition offers high payload capacity (up to 18 kg) and long reach (up to 1,800 mm), with seven axes providing exceptional flexibility in confined spaces. This unique combination enables integration into existing production lines without costly redesigns, setting it apart as one of the most versatile cobots on the market.

Tell us about the R&D behind this product.  Who is this product designed for?  What problem is it solving?

The Edge Edition was developed through close collaboration to meet the growing demand for compact, mobile cobot solutions. Our R&D team miniaturized the controller to just 10% of its original size and integrated it into the cobot’s base, creating a space-saving design ideally suited for mobile robots. With direct DC connection (42–58 VDC) and remote power on/off control, the Edge Edition runs directly on battery power and can be controlled from an AGV, AMR or PLC.

This design solves two pressing challenges: lack of space and the need for flexible automation. It enables cobots to be used in tight production areas and on mobile platforms where bulky controllers won’t fit. It’s especially relevant for intralogistics, packaging, and assembly, where manufacturers need to move automation between different points on the production line without major infrastructure changes.

Give us an idea on the installation process.

The Edge Edition saves space because the robot arm and controller form a compact unit that can be installed quickly. Its standardized base makes mounting on mobile platforms, workbenches, or production lines straightforward, and direct DC power integration eliminates the need for bulky external controllers.

How is your company setup to support the users of your products?

Kassow Robots provides support through a U.S.-based sales and technical team that works directly with customers on training, troubleshooting, and applications guidance. An online portal is available with documentation, software updates, and learning resources, giving users quick access to information whenever they need it.

We also partner with system integrators and distributors who bring local expertise and help customers during installation and as their applications expand. This network makes it easier for manufacturers to get practical, hands-on support close to where they operate.

On top of that, Bosch Rexroth strengthens this structure with its established global service network. Customers benefit from access to spare parts, training programs, and local service teams worldwide, ensuring consistent support whether they are running a single cobot or scaling automation across multiple sites.

What feedback have you received from the field?  Can you share a use case and the results?

Customers point to the Edge Edition’s compact design and integrated controller as major advantages for mobile automation.

Additional feedback highlights how the Edge Edition simplifies automation in tight production environments where traditional robots cannot fit. By combining seven-axis flexibility with a controller-in-base design, customers report shorter installation times, easier integration with AGVs and AMRs, and faster ROI across applications such as machine tending, palletizing, and intralogistics.
