Adept Receives $2.6 Million Order From CASTEC International Corp., Taiwan for Robotics to be Used in High Precision Assembly Workcells for Independent Semiconductor Manufacturing Service Provider

Adept Cobra Robots and Motion Control Workcells to Automate Sub-Assembly of Smart Phone Electronics

PLEASANTON, Calif., June 18, 2013 -- Adept Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:ADEP), a leading provider of intelligent robots and autonomous mobile solutions, today announced it has received a total order of $2.6 million from CASTEC International Corp., Taiwan for robotics to be used in high precision workcells for one of the largest providers of semiconductor manufacturing services. The workcells will utilize Adept Cobra robots, motion control and integrated vision to automate the sub assembly of smart phone electronics.

"As smartphone packaging becomes more dense, it is becoming more difficult to assemble by hand. CASTEC and its customer needed to find a way to drastically improve the overall yields of a smartphone component and knew a tightly integrated automation solution could deliver," said Hai Chang, Adept's newly appointed Vice President, Asia and Strategic Programs. "Prior to making the decision to automate this process CASTEC's customer was seeing low yield rates using a manual process through another vendor. The vendor contacted them to take on the process using automation to increase the yields and reduce costs."

"We believe that the Adept Cobra family of robots outperform the competitor's robots at high payload ranges and the Adept control platform with the tightly integrated vision technology provides the exact tools our customer needed to maintain high yield rates," said Abel Lo, CEO of CASTEC International Corp., Taiwan, a leading Taiwan robot system integrator.

The Adept Cobra™ SCARA robots are affordable, high-performance SCARA robot systems for mechanical assembly, material handling, packaging, machine tending, screw driving, and many other applications that require fast and precise automation. Adept's motion control technology can be used as an addition to an existing robot or as a stand-alone system. The distributed control architecture designed into all Adept motion control products make them ideal for the broadest range of automation applications. Adept vision-guidance systems allow customers to easily add out-of-the box vision capabilities to any automation workcell.
