QinetiQ North America's Gunfire Detection System Selected by German Military
Germany placed an order for more than $2 million in SWATS systems
RESTON, VA - September 10, 2013 - QinetiQ North America (QNA) today announced that the German military has selected its SWATS® (Shoulder-Worn Acoustic Targeting System) to meet a requirement for individual gunshot detection systems. Germany placed an order for more than $2 million in SWATS systems, EARS®/SWATS vehicle conversion kits and EARS/SWATS fixed site conversion kits.
"As we expand into the European market, SWATS is setting the standard for wearable gunfire detection to protect today's warfighters," said QNA's Technology Solutions General Manager Andy Rogers. "With over 17,000 units sold, and thousands of systems deployed in theater since 2007, SWATS is a proven system that saves lives."
QNA will supply SWATS systems with German language customization and documentation. The order includes new sensor firmware that substantially improves sensor performance with extended detection range and improved accuracy. Additionally, the order includes software to download recorded gunshot events for after-action review and analysis.
Part of QNA's suite of survivability products and solutions, SWATS is a rugged, field-proven system that can detect the origin of incoming fire in less than one second to minimize casualties. Developed as a wearable solution within QNA's EARS acoustic sensor program, SWATS provides the warfighter with the information necessary to quickly locate and defeat hidden enemy threats. QNA is an industry leader in survivability technology. QNA's survivability solutions include comprehensive armor, blast protection, integrated warrior systems and gunfire detection systems that are scalable for use in fixed-site, mobile, vehicle-mounted or wearable applications.

3D Vision: Ensenso B now also available as a mono version!
This compact 3D camera series combines a very short working distance, a large field of view and a high depth of field - perfect for bin picking applications. With its ability to capture multiple objects over a large area, it can help robots empty containers more efficiently. Now available from IDS Imaging Development Systems. In the color version of the Ensenso B, the stereo system is equipped with two RGB image sensors. This saves additional sensors and reduces installation space and hardware costs. Now, you can also choose your model to be equipped with two 5 MP mono sensors, achieving impressively high spatial precision. With enhanced sharpness and accuracy, you can tackle applications where absolute precision is essential. The great strength of the Ensenso B lies in the very precise detection of objects at close range. It offers a wide field of view and an impressively high depth of field. This means that the area in which an object is in focus is unusually large. At a distance of 30 centimetres between the camera and the object, the Z-accuracy is approx. 0.1 millimetres. The maximum working distance is 2 meters. This 3D camera series complies with protection class IP65/67 and is ideal for use in industrial environments.
