zSpace Expands AR/VR Applications to Industrial Robotics, Prepares Students for Industry Certifications and Workforce Opportunities in Manufacturing

zSpace to showcase award-winning solutions at ACTE 2019, highlighting interactive, hands-on learning experiences for trade schools, career colleges and community courses

Today, Silicon Valley edtech company zSpace Inc. announced an expansion to its augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) solutions for Career and Technical Education (CTE) coursework to include applications for industrial robotics and advanced manufacturing. Designed to augment the classroom training received in CTE programs, the new AR/VR manufacturing applications prepare students for certifications and provide industry-related experience in the classroom through virtual, repeatable, hands-on learning experiences.

Leveraging existing partnerships with GTAFE and Fun2, zSpace's AR/VR platform provides students with immersive training on a wide variety of manufacturing processes, from preventative maintenance to common procedures for manufacturing robots. Wearing tracked glasses and using a stylus, the self-guided applications allow students to lift mechanical components from zSpace's AR/VR Laptop or all-in-one computer screen and examine them in detail, gaining a deeper understanding of core manufacturing principles. Compared to traditional manufacturing training, students using zSpace can monitor assembly progress and provide real-time feedback by changing variables and correcting mistakes - without the instructor worrying about risk to students, material costs, limited space, or clean up. Training in AR/VR is unaffected by factory environments and can accommodate changes in product design, improve consistency across production lines, and address incoming or outgoing quality. Students learn in a safe environment where repairs can be practiced and repeated, resulting in more experience during on-the-job training.

"The interactive, hands-on learning experiences provided by AR/VR solutions like zSpace are valuable tools that accelerate learning as individuals explore career paths in manufacturing," said Jerry Jacques, president of the Treasure Coast Manufacturers Association. "We encourage any and all professional associations that support career and technical education to explore using AR/VR tools like zSpace in their own training programs to help employees advance their manufacturing careers, and to actively seek out new hires whose training included AR/VR applications."

Launched for education just six years ago, students at more than 1,800 school districts, technical centers, medical schools and universities across the world learn with zSpace every day. A full list of CTE applications designed for zSpace include:

3D Vision: Ensenso B now also available as a mono version!

This compact 3D camera series combines a very short working distance, a large field of view and a high depth of field - perfect for bin picking applications. With its ability to capture multiple objects over a large area, it can help robots empty containers more efficiently. Now available from IDS Imaging Development Systems. In the color version of the Ensenso B, the stereo system is equipped with two RGB image sensors. This saves additional sensors and reduces installation space and hardware costs. Now, you can also choose your model to be equipped with two 5 MP mono sensors, achieving impressively high spatial precision. With enhanced sharpness and accuracy, you can tackle applications where absolute precision is essential. The great strength of the Ensenso B lies in the very precise detection of objects at close range. It offers a wide field of view and an impressively high depth of field. This means that the area in which an object is in focus is unusually large. At a distance of 30 centimetres between the camera and the object, the Z-accuracy is approx. 0.1 millimetres. The maximum working distance is 2 meters. This 3D camera series complies with protection class IP65/67 and is ideal for use in industrial environments.
