Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) to Discuss Automating ‘Non-Conveyable’ Material Transport During RIA Robotics Week

Vendor of collaborative, flexible and robust autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to speak on virtual panel “Logistics and Warehousing: Use Cases for Robotics” September 10, demonstrate entire fleet of AMRs

Transporting non-conveyable items within distribution and fulfilment centers—typically a manual task—is becoming more flexible and less cumbersome thanks to the emergence of automation technologies such as autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). Josh Cloer, sales director, Americas, for Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR), will highlight the pivotal role AMRs now play in automating this task during a session at Robotics Industries Associations' Robotics Week 2020 virtual event, September 8-11.


"With the growing online marketplace and increasing demand for home delivery of larger goods, there is an ever-greater need for moving non-conveyable items in distribution and fulfillment centers," said Cloer, who on September 10 will join other robotic manufacturers in a session entitled "Logistics and Warehousing: Use Cases for Robotics." "Historically, moving non-conveyable items has been a challenging task to automate, so have remained largely manual. New technology in the form of autonomous mobile robots provides an easier way to transport goods, making automating the movement of non-conveyables a reality."

In addition to its part on the virtual panel, MiR will demonstrate its entire fleet of collaborative, flexible and robust AMRs, including its most recent addition, the MiR250. In three months, the company sold and shipped "more than three digits" of this robot, which is faster, safer and more agile than any other solution in the category, Cloer added. "The MiR250 is lower and narrower than other AMRs, making it especially attractive for facilities with tighter spaces as it can smoothly and efficiently navigate in—and through—door openings, small elevators and even under tables."

Other MiR solutions demonstrated in the company's virtual booth include the MiR100, MiR200, MiR500 and MiR1000. Designed for both light and heavy internal transport, these AMRs optimize logistics throughout the entire production chain, from the warehouse to the delivery of goods. MiR AMRs are already installed in more than 50 countries at companies such as Toyota, Ford Motors, Raytheon, ABB and CABKA North America.
