Imagine a robot that can manage aquaculture projects, repair oil pipelines, and scan the seabed — all without risking human life. Nauticus Robotics' flagship robot, Aquanaut, meets these challenges while running solely on electric power.

A Strong Partnership between Nauticus Robotics and Elmo Motion Control Changes Deep Sea Work

The oceanic economy, encompassing the seas and the shores, amounts to $2.5 trillion annually. If the ocean were a country, it would have the seventh-largest GDP on Earth. That number could continue growing — but only if our planet’s many seas remain healthy.

MEET NAUTICUS ROBOTICS

Nauticus Robotics believes it is responsible for protecting the world’s oceans. That’s why it created a highly sophisticated, ultra-sustainable fleet of marine robotics and the intelligent software to power them.

Their world-class team comprises ex-NASA trailblazers with decades of experience researching, engineering, and building space robotics. Combined with their expertise and technology, they aim to advance green subsea robotics in the same way. At Nauticus, they are building efficient, eco-friendly alternatives to the harmful methods of the past. Their technology streamlines operations, protects life in all forms, and reduces the carbon cost of developing the ocean’s resources.

MEET ELMO MOTION CONTROL

Elmo has been a motion control technology leader for over 35 years, with millions of servo drives working 24/7 worldwide. Elmo offers complete motion control solutions from design to delivery of cutting-edge servo drives, network-based multi-axis motion controllers, and integrated servo motors. All solutions can be customized and configured using Elmo's proprietary advanced and easy-to-use software tools for any machine in any industry, such as semiconductors, lasers, robots, life sciences, industrial automation, AGV, and more. The company employs more than 360 personnel with headquarters in Israel and offices in the United States, China, Germany, Italy, Korea, Singapore, and an additional manufacturing facility in Poland. Elmo has a worldwide distribution network. By advancing motion control with state-of-the-art technology, Elmo makes smart machines even smarter. As of 2022, Elmo is a Bosch Rexroth company.

THE FUTURE OF UNDERWATER ROBOTICS

Imagine a robot that can manage aquaculture projects, repair oil pipelines, and scan the seabed — all without risking human life. Nauticus Robotics' flagship robot, Aquanaut, meets these challenges while running solely on electric power. It’s the first subsea robot that’s just as versatile as it is sustainable. There are two modes of operation, and one is an AUV until you need an ROV. Then, it transforms without missing a beat.

Meet the Nauticus Robotics Aquanaut. It doesn’t need a topside platform or any complex infrastructure. Aquanaut is 100% powered by electricity and emits no CO2, eliminating human crews and taking on the most challenging projects.

AQUANAUT POWERED BY ELMO

The industry status quo is an autonomous AUV that can do long-range surveys or an ROV with arms, a trained pilot, and support equipment. Aquanaut is the first robot that can do both without a tether.

As motion control is essential, Nauticus Robotics chose Elmo’s tried-and-true products to lay the groundwork for their system. In addition, Elmo's user-friendly Application Studio software allowed the Nauticus engineering team to tune 3,000 M depth-rated drives quickly. Elmo performed well and helped decrease Nauticus' time to production by providing out-of-the-box solutions to many robotic control problems and a depth-rated quality piece of hardware that didn't require additional testing.

“Elmo products are very easy to use, have a ton of functionality, and are suited to almost any application. Elmo’s drives increased Nauticus output capabilities by allowing them to integrate all their actuated components more tightly into smaller packages, reduce the size of the vehicle, reduce complexity, and add other components.”

Ronen Sadan concluded, "This partnership has been very successful for both companies and is changing the world of deep-sea work.”
