Learn how Tethered Drones can Spray a NASA-developed Compound oo Remove Smog and Pollution from the Air

The Apellix Project Breathe aspires to use tethered drones to spray paint a NASA-developed compound that removes smog and pollution from the air on US Highway noise barriers.

Apellix, protecting the worlds built and industrial environments through technology, is celebrating Earth Day with the Apellix Project Breathe which aspires to use tethered drones to spray paint a NASA-developed compound that removes smog and pollution from the air on US Highway noise barriers.

Not only is clean air important to the earth, outdoor air pollution is also one of the world's biggest human health problems. Long-term exposure to air pollution can have negative impacts on physical health and wellbeing - including cognitive functioning. One common visible measure of air pollution you can see with your own eyes is smog. Smog is a leading risk factor for premature death; responsible for 3.4 million deaths worldwide each year.

In the US, transportation contributes over 55% of NOx emissions, a major component of smog. NO x is a generic term for the nitrogen oxides that are most relevant for air pollution, mostly nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO 2). These gases contribute to the formation of smog, acid rain, and negatively affect tropospheric ozone. NO x gases are produced from the reaction of nitrogen and oxygen during the combustion of fuels.

People who live, work or attend school near major roads appear to have an increased incidence and severity of health problems due to increased exposure to air pollution-related to roadway traffic. Children, older adults, people with preexisting diseases, and people of lower socioeconomic status tend to be among those most at higher risk for health impacts from air pollution near roadways.

NASA has developed a sprayable photocatalytic surface treatment that transforms harmful NOx gasses into simple harmless substances to clean the air just as plants do. This environmentally friendly water-based product coating neutralizes the harmful NOx gases with a photocatalytic activity of Titanium Dioxide and natural sunlight to turn the gases into harmless substances: water, CO2, and nitrate salts. The impact is powerful. One lane mile (or 6000m2) will remove one ton of NOx per year - year after year. This is equivalent to reversing the polluting effect of cars driving 650,000 miles.

The US Highway systems noise barriers represent over 3,300 linear miles of sprayable flat vertical surface surrounding emission-producing environments. Apellix has developed patented spray painting aerial robotic systems (drones) and so proposes applying the air cleaning surface treatment to the US Highway noise barriers potentially reducing the smog of millions of car trips.

Real Time Systems - ALL APPLICATIONS ON ONE HARDWARE PLATFORM

Real Time Systems - ALL APPLICATIONS ON ONE HARDWARE PLATFORM

The RTS Hypervisor enables work-load consolidation of both real-time and non-real-time operating systems on a single x86 based platform. Unlike traditional virtualization, we partition and allocate the hardware for each work-load and provide a "privileged" mode for real-time operating systems that guarantee zero impact to determinism while adding zero jitter. This is instrumental for work-loads such as robotic controllers managing motion control where minimum jitter is required. And, our hypervisor is designed for easy setup and configuration for any work-load consolidation scenario. This equates to deterministic real-time applications taking advantage of all the benefits of virtualization immediately, without costly implementation projects.
