RMT Robotics-Sponsored FIRST Robotics Team Honored with Rookie Inspiration Award

Team honored with Rookie Inspiration Award for outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering and engineers within the school and community

Grimsby, Ontario, Canada (May 1, 2012) - RMT Robotics® (www.rmtrobotics.com), a Cimcorp Oy company, is pleased to announce that MakeShift Robotics, FIRST Robotics team #4039 sponsored by RMT Robotics, received the Rookie Inspiration Award at the FIRST® Robotics Competition, March 22-24, 2012.

MakeShift Robotics is a team of 13 high school students from St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario. Mentored and sponsored by RMT Robotics engineers, the team was started in May 2011 by RMT Engineering Manager Matt Alderson.

MakeShift Robotics competed against 29 other teams in the FIRST Robotics Competition Waterloo Regional with their robot, "the Shift." The robot made it to the quarterfinals after competing in 11 qualification matches requiring tasks ranging from shooting baskets to balancing on teeter-totter bridges. The team was recognized with the Rookie Inspiration Award for its outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering and engineers within the school and community.

"RMT Robotics is proud to support such an innovative and enthusiastic group of students in their pursuit of engineering and robotics knowledge," said Alderson. "MakeShift Robotics is truly deserving of this award and we are excited for their continued growth and success."

The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition is an annual competition that helps students discover the rewards and excitement of engineering and technology. Working with mentors, students design, build and test robots over six weeks in preparation for competition. The 2012 season included more than 2,400 teams competing in 52 regional events.
