Stäubli Robotics at PACK EXPO: Problem-Solving Robots for Process-Safe Packaging

Stäubli Robotics to present leading-edge automation solutions for aseptic and hygienic processing and packaging in life sciences and food

Duncan, South Carolina, July 31, 2023 - Tens of thousands of attendees from 40+ vertical industries will converge at the Las Vegas Convention Center on September 11 - 13 for PACK EXPO, North America's premier packaging and processing event. A global leader in industrial automation, Stäubli Robotics will have a major presence at Booth #6951, South Lower Hall, demonstrating how its robots help ensure product safety in the life science and food sectors.

Stäubli Robotics works with partners in virtually every industry to design solutions for industry-specific challenges. Its innovations in life sciences and food are especially notable. The company's acclaimed Stericlean robots facilitate automation in demanding aseptic environments. Their innovative hygienic design features a unique fully enclosed structure with special seals to minimize airborne particles, a smooth surface with no retention areas, and a special high-resistance coating.

At PACK EXPO, Stäubli will demonstrate how its high-precision TX2-60 Stericlean robot automates medical device manufacturing processes. Paired with a flexible feeding platform from Stäubli partner Asyril, the robot will pick and place medical device components. The feeding module uses AI vision to locate acceptable parts and transmit their pick coordinates to the robot. Production is tracked by means of a monitor, allowing full traceability. Both safety and efficiency are assured.

Stäubli's pioneering work in robotics for sensitive environments has advantages for the food industry as well. In a second demonstration, its hygienic TS2-60 HE (humid environment) robot, capable of withstanding rigorous washdown procedures, will perform a high-speed chicken breast handling and thermoform loading operation, picking the product up from a conveyor and placing it precisely into its packaging. This minimizes human intervention, relieving workers of tedious and repetitive tasks, while protecting the sterility of the product and increasing productivity.

The innovations also extend to intralogistics. The packaging industry is increasingly embracing AGV (automated guided vehicle) technology, and at PACK EXPO, attendees will have the opportunity to discover Stäubli's Red Dot Design award-winning PF3 AGV platform. This unique ultra-compact AGV has the smallest footprint on the market - and a payload of up to three tons. It maneuvers safely through limited space in packaging environments, achieving sub-centimeter positioning precision.

3D Vision: Ensenso B now also available as a mono version!

3D Vision: Ensenso B now also available as a mono version!

This compact 3D camera series combines a very short working distance, a large field of view and a high depth of field - perfect for bin picking applications. With its ability to capture multiple objects over a large area, it can help robots empty containers more efficiently. Now available from IDS Imaging Development Systems. In the color version of the Ensenso B, the stereo system is equipped with two RGB image sensors. This saves additional sensors and reduces installation space and hardware costs. Now, you can also choose your model to be equipped with two 5 MP mono sensors, achieving impressively high spatial precision. With enhanced sharpness and accuracy, you can tackle applications where absolute precision is essential. The great strength of the Ensenso B lies in the very precise detection of objects at close range. It offers a wide field of view and an impressively high depth of field. This means that the area in which an object is in focus is unusually large. At a distance of 30 centimetres between the camera and the object, the Z-accuracy is approx. 0.1 millimetres. The maximum working distance is 2 meters. This 3D camera series complies with protection class IP65/67 and is ideal for use in industrial environments.
