The ExoHand from Festo is an exoskeleton that can be worn like a glove. The fingers can be actively moved and their strength amplified; the operator's hand movements are registered and transmitted to the robotic hand in real time. The fingers can be actively moved and their strength amplified; the operator’s hand movements are registered and transmitted to the robotic hand in real time. The objectives are to enhance the strength and endurance of the human hand, to extend humans’ scope of action and to secure them an independent lifestyle even at an advanced age. .

Patent-Pending Vertical Arresting System From Macron Dynamics Opens New Possibilities For Use Of Belt Driven Actuators In Vertical Automation Applications
Macron Dynamics has introduced a new patent-pending arresting system designed for belt driven actuators used in vertical automation applications. Macron's CLAWS adds a level of security in the event of a belt failure that, until now, did not exist. In the rare instance of belt breakage or failure, CLAWS engages and prevents the vertically-oriented load from falling. In addition, belt driven linear actuators provide some distint advantages over alternatives that have previously been used in vertical motion applications, including travel length and speed.

The ST Robotics Workspace Sentry robot and area safety system are based on a small module that sends an infrared beam across the workspace. If the user puts his hand (or any other object) in the workspace, the robot stops using programmable emergency deceleration. Each module has three beams at different angles and the distance a beam reaches is adjustable. Two or more modules can be daisy chained to watch a wider area. "A robot that is tuned to stop on impact may not be safe. Robots where the trip torque can be set at low thresholds are too slow for any practical industrial application. The best system is where the work area has proximity detectors so the robot stops before impact and that is the approach ST Robotics has taken," states President and CEO of ST Robotics David Sands.
