What does the future hold for robotics?

The robotics revolution is upon us. It has long been the topic of sci-fi thrillers, but now it has arrived, it looks very different to the way we envisioned it. Mechanical men don't march among us, in fact robots are mainly used in industry and they have only just been permitted to operate outside a robot cell. Graham Mackrell, managing director of precision gearing expert Harmonic Drive UK explores what a robotic future really looks like.

Applimotion Low-Profile DDR Motors for Arc Segment and Large Diameter Motion

The Infinity Series enables OEMs to move light payloads in smooth and accurate arc-shaped and full 360-degree rotary motion profiles. Ultra-thin arc-shaped motor segments can be used individually or interconnected to create exact partial arc segment motion or full 360-degree rotary motion. Modular construction allows for virtually unlimited diameter and large through holes. This level of flexibility is not possible with conventional motor designs.

Standardizing Collaborative Robots: What is ISO/TS 15066?

Samuel Bouchard for Engineering.com:  Collaborative robots (also known as cobots) are changing how robots and humans interact in our factories and manufacturing facilities.  No longer separated by cages, humans and cobots can work beside each other on complex tasks from picking and placement to assembly and logistics.  Human-cobot systems bring together the best of human capabilities (complex reasoning, ease of learning new tasks, pattern and object recognition in cluttered environments) and robot functionality (the ability to perform complex, tedious tasks 24/7 and with high precision).  The close proximity between humans and cobots and its advantages are exciting for manufacturers, SMEs, and the robotics industry, but it also brings a unique set of safety challenges. Enter ISO/TS 15066 – the world's first specifications of safety requirements for collaborative robot applications.  Cont'd...
